I am looking for a good pair of headphones to wear at work. I work in an office setting and will need to interact with people throughout the day. I listen to mostly metal (with classical, rock, and some hip-hop and techno mixed in). I plan on wearing these headphones for hours on a daily basis. I'd like to keep the price near or below $150.

The priorities are in the following order (give or take a little):

1. Comfort
2. Isolation
3. Build quality
4. Sound quality
5. Price
6. I don't want to look rediculous wearing them as I am in a semi-professional environment.

Some headphones I'm considering are:

Ultrasone PRO 550
Audio Technica ATH-A700
Audio Technica ATH-M50
Bose AE2
Sony MDR XB700

Recommendation?

EDIT: Forgot to mention, I will be listening to music using my Sansa Fuse (older edition), unamped.

EDIT2: For those of you who may compare performace/price, I will be able to get a pair of AE2's for $75, so take that into consideration as well.

i can personally vouch for the ath-a700 as being #1 for comfort out of all those headphones you listed. you "might" want to switch out the stock pads but they do not tend to be an issue. the m50 will suit your music genre much better than the ath-a700 but they are not exactly the most comfortable also. personally speaking i went from m50 -> headphone with wing system (exactly like the a700) -> back to m50 and it became so unbearable for it to sit on my head for more than an hour. then again i have a sensitive head when it comes to headphones clamping down on my head. and both of them will isolate noise really well. i know from experience redface.gif

now my m50 is sitting on the desk collecting dust.

Thanks for the comparison between the a700 and m50. Comfort is definitely the most important to me. Do you have experience with any of the other headphones I listed?

Might be a bit over budget but worth looking into:

no unfortunately. but i assure you can also cross out the bose for your headphone choices. they are dead last compared to the others. think of bose being below skullcandys.

I like the fact that they're not enormous and would only consider them because I can get them for $75.

I am definitely leaning towards the a700's and will probably be buying them tonight.
