Thanks man
I want to run 8 dimms and my target is 2133 MHz. I currently have Geil 2133Mhz dimms. Will need to play with it because I only hit 1600 with it. The kit is 2x4GB 4off.

new & old owner here.

Ive just massacred my cpu socket in the old one while building a silly warercooling system. so new one arrives today.

do i get bonus points for 2? tongue.gif

Sounds like coil whine. The active phase switching will reduce power to the CPU per loading to save energy. I have not encountered this myself as I never use the APS function. It is possible it is reducing the power too much and stressing the components. I would leave it disabled. I run my board at 4.6 GHz 24/7, and have not encountered any problem like this one.

Hey guys, need your help again smile.gif

I can boot my board with 108 BLCK, but can't get it stable.
mem speed is 1728MHz default is 1600MHz, timings default (9-9-9-24 2T), CPU speed ~ 4.15GHz

I've tried:
- increasing mem volt to 1.56v on all channels
- increasing CPU I/O to 1.1v (default is 1.04)
- didn't mess with PLL because default is already high (I think) @ 1.77v
- EDIT: QPI is also increased to around 3.38 GHz

I didn't mess with the core voltage either, reason for wanting help with this is the reduced vcore at idle.

cheers

p.s.: default is auto in BIOS & +rep as always smile.gif

You can try cpu strap 1.25 and bclk 125, it works great, at 5ghz (125*40) it works better than 100*50

in your case

cpu strap 1.25
bclk 125
cpu multi 33 (4125mhz)
memory multi 1333 (1666mhz)

i did not push bclk hard but 129 works very stable with 1.25 strap

Thx again Cele303, but my board won't even boot with those settings frown.gif

However, I found that I can get a full 3 year warranty on my cpu from Intel even if it died from oc'ing or degredation due to oc'ing, they'll replace it no questions asked.
(35$ for 39xx & 25$ for 3820), here's the link if anyone else wants it:
http://click.intel.com/tuningplan/

So, I managed a safe 24/7 oc with the following setting in BIOS:

Multi 42x
Blck 105
Vcore 1.32v (1.346v under load)
SA 1.25v
I/O 1.05v
PLL 1.7v
RAM 1.52v
LLC 25% (not sure what's the difference between 25% or 50% or auto)

CPU Speed 4.41GHz
RAM Speed 1680 MHz (9-9-9-24-2T)
Temps are high 60's under prime95 (idle temps are high 30's)

Hope this helps anyone and feel free to share advise.

Note: The board is so good....if you mess up in the BIOS and the system fails to boot, no need to open your case and reset cmos or flip a switch or anything, just hit reset/power & the board resets itself for you and reboots asking if you want default settings or keep existing setting and mess around some more...awesome thumb.gif

Hey fellas,

There are some great guides for OC with this board and the 3930.. however I noticed when I bump it to 4.6 I'm getting some fairly higher temps (even under watercooled)

Does anyone know if there are guides to a little more conservative OC on the 3930? I was thinking between 4.0-4.2? I purchased the Cosmos II case and it seems to have fairly good air flow. (going to add two additional 120mm fans on the door) At idle I was getting temps in the 50c Range at 4.6 OC. Obviously that is too high

Thanks for the help as always!
