ASUS p5w64?

Thread Starter
hi all,
ive been looking into getting this board because its got the best of both worlds, good overclocking and good board layout (unlike the abit aw9d max). my intentions are to run an e6600 and 2 7900gto's in sli. my delimma is what pcie slots should i use for sli because of the 8X 8X 4X 8X speeds of the four pciexpress slots. i saw somewhere where they used slots 1 and 4... will an sli bridge reach that far?

I dont think an SLI bridge will reach that far as there pretty small. It should matter where you put the cards aslong as there both in 8x slots. I would put them in slot 1 and 2.

the only problem with slots 1 and 2 is they are too close together because the 7900gto's have the double wide cooling...so its either 1 and 3, or 2 and 4 ( dont know if thats possible as its not in the first slot) , or 1 and 4 ( i cant find where i saw that but i thought i did.... is it possible?)

Well you cant run it in slot 3 as its 4x and SLI wouldnt be possible. However there amy be extended SLI bridges out there i dont know of so you may be fine.

i think sli would still be possible in slots 1 and 3 but it would be at 8X and 4X which would be slower that 8X 8X......whats the point of getting two cards if im only going to see a 50% gain, why not just get a 7950gx2?

Well SLI may work however the other 8x slot will be bought down to 4x also . However i would perhaps just get a single 7950GX2 as it would serve you well.

well im runnin a samsung 24", do you think it will still be enough for that?? ive seen the 7900gto's overclocked to 7900gtx speeds and two 7900gts's blows a 7950gx2 out of the water, not to mention that getting the two card is actually the same price if not cheaper than the one 7950gx2.

Well 2 cards working togethe will do better than a single 7950gx2 yes. It depends on your budget really but a single 7950 will be fine with that monitor yes

You need hacked driver for the P5W64 WS. Second you'll want slot 1 and 2 for maximum performance
