No one expects that. As I said 7850 and 6 core power pc sounds about right. Number one it would not be too expensive, number two it would fit into the power envelope and number 3 when it releases in 2013 they would be right near the next die shrink bringing power consumption and prices down even lower.

The reason Llano and a rebranded 6670 doesn't make sense is no console has ever used technology that old upon release and Sony and Microsoft have never released a console that wasn't loss leading. It also introduces redundancies into the system which simply does not make sense in a console. This whole setup would consume more power then a low wattage power pc chip and a strong discrete GPU. I don't expect Microsoft to go balls to the wall like they did with their xenos GPU or Sony to make another asymetrical multi core CPU but I do expect the consoles to both be quite competent hardware wise when they are released. As it is tablets are already near producing 360 graphics and it would not take much for apple to release a controller and hdmi out version of the Ipad and completely change the console gaming dynamic. The fact of the matter is graphics are what seperate the 360 and PS3 from the rest of the gaming landscape. (And before you say it PC is a niche market) Fact of the matter is HD console gaming is cutting edge and I do not see them losing that advantage in the face of a rapidly changing game industry.

I'm actually excited to see what Sony, MS, and software developers will bring to the tables with similar system specs on the next generation consoles. Although compared to PC standards it is well below average, however the devs do not need to worry about variable user system specs and fully maximize each console for hopefully less than $500.

I'd like to see a challenge to build a similar spec'd PC with the budget and ease of use of a console at the $500* price point with maximized playable frame rates (Full 1080P 30-60FPS) biggrin.gif..

Correct me if i'm wrong but don't consoles delegate less system resources if anything at all towards a single game than a PC environment running Windows X? Therefore maximizing system efficiency?

I'm pretty sure the entire 360 OS uses like 30mb of RAM total. Obviously they can squeeze a lot out of much less with consoles. If devs spent three years optimizing for even something like a 480GTX and Q9550 can you imagine what that game would look like?

Yea no kidding! So with the proposed specs of the new PS4, i'm sure they'll be fine. Imagine if they used a similar structure to Intel's SB/IB, Nvidia/AMD 600/7000 Series... OMG!!! l33t! haha biggrin.gif

Instruction sets wasn't the right term. The Cell wasn't exactly the easiest to code for in the first place, hopefully this will make it easier to utilize every thread.

The CPU is too weak. Not sure if it is better than current Cell processor

And even the GPU is not really that great. I was expecting something to be comparable (or slightly slower) to GTX 680 for next generation console

I'm sure there was news about Sony being in financial trouble in a few areas of their business, maybe making profit from day one would help. Didn't their CEO step down?

Also if the PS4 is using an AMD GPU = Win for AMD GPU PC owners?
