[Gamespot] Ea named worst company in America by Consumerist - Page 5

-This means that the actual amount of people who voted in the finals could be any undisclosed amount, but it is likely not even half of the 250,000 total votes stated. 20 people could have voted in the finals for all we know. We only know the total amount of votes received during the entire competition.
-The site is a blog, not obliged to be objective in any way.
-Even if EA received 249,970 votes over the course of the competition, that's still a tiny number of people in comparison to the amount of people in America.
-People are idiots to despise the dealings of EA more than banks.

This. Why all the hate on EA when there are other companies not even gaming related that are far worse. Lets put it this way, if 100% of the 2500 votes went to EA and 300 million people play their games that's only 0.00083% of their consumers. Of course there is a lot more but still this is a poll on a blog on the internet where the vast majority of the people there are "nerds" and value video game companies importance over all else. The only problems with EA are they have crap costumer service and are money grubbing everything else meets or exceeds the standards

I agree not all banks are that bad, but some do try to persuade you to get into debt so you end up paying them more and more.
All publishers do is sell games for game developers and figure out how to make maximum profit. They're a business.. that's what they're supposed to do. All you would have to do to avoid these publishers is simply not buy games from them. They have very little influence on your life unless you take gaming way too seriously. There's no way a publisher is going to ruin someone's life by selling over-priced games and abusing DLCs.

Just remember that each time you overdraw your account, EVEN if you have overdraft protection with that account, you get charged between $15-35 depending on what bank you're with. Even EA, as much as they have messed up people's accounts on Origin, doesn't steal money like that.

If you know of some bank that doesn't charge that fee, I'll switch my account tomorrow.

Or just simply giving loans out to those who have no proof of income. The longer someone is in debt.. the more they will have to pay!

for example
in canada in 2009 the bank of canadas prime rate was only 2.0%
which means the banks such as RBC, TD, Socia, Montreal, borrow from that bank, and only pay 2%, so because it was so low, mortgage rates droped, and i was able to get a 2.8 20 year mortgage, that means the bank is only making .8 percent off of me over 20 years, which is CHEAP, my house was 185,000 CND.
so i SAVED a ton by being competitive, in 2002, my parents sold there house and bought a new house, and paid a 14.8 25 year mortgage.
my VISA with the same bank has a 5.9% monthly interest rate, if i dont pay off 30 percent of remaining balance with a 4500 limit.
not bad deals

I agree with you. There is a lot of personal responsibility involved. My point was that banks overall have a very large impact on peoples' lives, unlike publishers.

GameSpot, EA senior director of corporate communications John Reseburg said, "We're sure that bank presidents, oil, tobacco, and weapons companies are all relieved they weren't on the list this year. We’re going to continue making award-winning games and services played by more than 300 million people worldwide."

well well well, haven't though out that response very thoroughly now, haven't you Mr. Reseburg?!.......so what you're saying is that as long as the amount of people who are happy outweigh the amount who are not, you could care less?......well now, the same can be said about the companies you mentioned wth.gif .........in banking as long as the amount of people who are happy outweigh the amount who got screwed with percentage and lost their homes, we're going to continue doing business with millions of people worldwide!..........with oil companies as long as the amount of people who are happy and can afford it outweigh the amount who can't, and the ecological disasters which they cause worldwide, they're going to continue doing business with millions of people worldwide!.........as long as the amount of people who are happy and are enjoying their tobacco outweigh the amount who are dying in hospitals and from second hand smoke, we're going to continue doing business with millions of poeple worldwide!........and finally, as long as the amount of people who are happy being protected/protecting/using weapons outweigh the amount who are being killed, robbed, and having their countries destroyed by those very weapons, we're going to continue doing business with millions of people who make that happen worldwide!.........the point was not about who is the worst company, because the ones mentioned certainly are, it was about seeing how well a company responds to the complaints of its customers..........and it's safe to say that you, Mr. Reseburg, have failed.......miserably smile.gif

Yeh we all know how EA is evil and sucks the life out of game devs and ruins everything it touches. I mean sure there are other companies which do worse things to humanity but from the confines of waht a company can do EA is the most evil. Oil may do more evil, but EA, for what it is, is the worst company. If you buy gas, you get gas. You don't get watered down gas and then gas DLC after you fill your car with water and gas. Then 5minutes down the road you need to unlock "oil" with more money.

I think if a gas pump or bank literally spit in your face after doing business then it would be equivalent to EA, maybe...

If the vast majority of the 250k polled say one thing, then you can conclude with virtual certainty that the vast majority of 300 million will say the same thing.

Problem with that argument, is that nowhere in the article does it state how many out of the 250k votes that the ENTIRE competition received in total from the first to the last round, were for EA.

Nor do we know how many people voted for EA at each stage of the competition to be able to tally up how many out of the 250k were actually in EAs direction.

We know that EA got more votes than whoever they "beat" at each stage, but was it by 100,000 votes or was it by 10?

How many people voted at each stage?

There were around 30 different polls, so that's actually 250,000 votes devided into 30 different polls.

That's an "average" of a mere 8333 votes per voting stage.

Still seem significant to you?

I dunno, The Consumerist is a fairly influential blog. Totally don't blame EA for passing it off, though. You don't get to be the best and most sucessful without making enemies. It's just, yeah, I made my point tongue.gif
