I have a 2500k paired with the Extreme4 Gen3 and love it.

Go for it.

I have used the non-Gen3 version of that board. Very solid for the price. So long as you don't clock your 2500K high it is good enough. It can handle clockspeed at or below 4.5 GHz. After than it depends on your luck with the CPU.

good ram..
if you want beast that overclock well i recommend the Samsung low voltage
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147096

and G,Skil Ripjaws/x/z or snipers at 1600, 1866 or 2133 with the tightest timings available
same with Corsair vengeance..

in reality any DDR3 1600 CL7,8 or 9 would do just as well as higher speed RAM in most applications and all games smile.gif

err..the Samsung RAMs are real nice with Sandy Bridge
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147096&nm_mc=OTC-Froogle&cm_mmc=OTC-Froogle-_-Memory+%28Desktop+Memory%29-_-SAMSUNG-_-20147096

2240 Mhz np..did I mention @ 9-10-10-28?

That wouldn't be a board I'd pick for longevity...or max overclocks for that matter...For me that would be Asus or Biostar
p8p67 pro
tp67xe
tz68k+
p8z68v-pro

Did i mention the new Ivy Bridge boards would be here in a week or two? You may want to wait a little bit....

I have that particular board with 2500k and I love it. If you are thinking about getting it I say do. If you need anything, feel free to ask. However there's also one more motherboard I think you should consider. The Extreme4 Gen3. IN case you are gonna do dual-gpu setup. Also it's got bit beefier CPU power delivery. Other stuff is minor differences.

Basically if aren't going to do SLI/CF go Extreme4 Gen3 and if you're going to go Pro3 Gen3.

The 4+1 VRM is lame on the pro3 gen3. So is the BIOS that neglects features which make overclocking over 4.1 Ghz harder. The pro3 was a good board but the pro3 gen3 is weak. Pay the extra $25 and get the Extreme. It has 8+4 VRM and the BIOS is the one that everyone has templates of.

4+1 and 4+2 didn't really matter, because CPU itself is still going to use 4 phases. +1 or +2 is for integrated memory controller and iGPU.

Have you not seen TZ68A+, which is a 4+2 phases motherboard that can hit 4.8 GHz on 2500K? I have seen Pro3 hit 4.7 GHz on 2600K as well. I agree that Extreme3 is better, but if budget is really tight, Pro3 works just fine.
