First time custom loop, advice needed

Thread Starter
Ok, as the title shows i am going to be building my first custom water loop for my corsair 600T white grahpite,

current build is in my sig, tomorrow i get new parts, 7850 GPU, 8120 CPU

i want to start with just the CPU, but have a pump/Rad/etc enough to eventually have 2 7850s and custom waterblock them..

as said first time building a parts list, please let me know tweaks and or advice for this.

Also, my case is near empty at the bottom, i use a 5.25 to 3.5 adapter in the bay so my HDD is out of the way, also my fan controller is there. (corsairs died on me)
so both HDD bays are not in the system, giving me ample room

Radiator: i chose this specific one for my 600t, because i cannot do a push pull config in the top of my case, so this rad mounted inside with
2 120mm fans outside pulling air from the case.

Pump:

i have heard good things about this pump.. once again first build, just rolling with this

CPU block - http://www.frozencpu.com/products/10331/ex-blc-720/EK_Supreme_HF_Universal_CPU_Liquid_Cooling_Block_w_LGA_2011_Hardware_-_Rev_3_-_Acetal_Electroless_Nickel_Plated_EK-Supreme_HF_-_AcetalEN_Nickel.html

Reservoir: http://www.freezecomputer.com/Item.cfm?ItemID=18194

this is the centerpiece of my themed build, i love the resident evil series, and my case has been dedicated to it thus far, and since im ordering the 600t custom acrylic panel for the case, having some nice things to look at is always good.

my only issue with building a custom loop is this, i have no idea what thickness of tubing to use, but i know i want solid white tubing.. so i can just use plain distilled water.. no fancy UV liquid etc. please let me know what tubing and fittings i will ned ( i prefer compression ones,) i'm just not good at sizing them up. thanks again everyone

I'll start off with what are, in my opinion, good choices.

The pump is an excellent choice and will be more than adequate for what you want to eventually have in your loop.

The CPU water block is also an excellent choice. I haven't looked at reviews recently but that has always been one of the best performing ones.

A reservoir is a reservoir. If thats what you like then get it.

With regards to tubing size. The difference in performance between the 3/8 and 1/2 inch (the most common sizes) is negligable. Most people from what I have noticed go for 3/8. I have had both and much prefer the look of the smaller 3/8.

Now for the radiator. The one you have chosen will be far from adequate to cool your CPU and two 7850's. You would need something more like a thick quad rad or maybe two 240's or a 240 and a 360.

Here's an example of the type of quad rad you would be looking at:

http://www.frozencpu.com/products/14987/ex-rad-341/Alphacool_NexXxoS_UT60_Full_Copper_Quad_120mm_Radiator.html?tl=g30c95s570

I'm not familiar with your case but not many can fit a quad rad in so you may be better looking at two smaller ones. You may even get away with a single, thick (60mm) 360 but I personally feel that would be pushing it with everything you want on the loop. Especially if you want to start overclocking. Someone may correct me though as i only speak from experience and what seems to be common with other people. I'm no expert.

One more thing. I use compression fittings but stay away from the swivelling angled ones. More hassel than there worth. Also cheap, standard compression fittings work just as well as the expensive bits power ones. They just don't look as nice

Thanks for the help, sadly i dont think i can fit that in my case, now, what if i decided the dual 120 in the top, and when i added the 2 waterblock cards, ADD an aditional rad somewhere.. for now tho i will jsut be cooling my CPU, nothing else. as im saving money for another 7850 etc
post #4 of 35
That would be completely fine. Again though I would go for a thicker radiator. The one you have selected will be just fine for your CPU but will struggle when you include the additional blocks.

http://www.frozencpu.com/products/14856/ex-rad-332/Alphacool_NexXxoS_UT60_Full_Copper_Dual_120mm_Radiator.html?tl=g30c95s160

Thats what you want. Yes a little more but do it right now and save money in the future. If you do decide to go for a thicker one I would do a little research as to wether it will fit properly in your case once you have included fans. A thick rad with one set of fans would be roughly the equivalant thickness of a normal rad with push pull. The thicker rad will perform better though.

ok, so that Rad, and the rest of the setup will be GTG, ill do mroe research about it fiting in my case but it ooks good, now, do i want 2/8 OD or ID tubing, and that also means 3/8 inch compression fittings?
5/16" ID - 3/8" OD is what I have. Choose a good quality tubing as well because some of the cheaper ones have been known to leave plasticizer behind in the loop. This is bad and can clog everything up.

Good luck with loop. Its late here so I'm off to bed.

Also i just blanked out completely earlier, i can use 2 120mm rads in ym case, because i have 2 120mm fans in the front as a custom mod. so. would 2 120mm rads be enough to cool the cpu and up to 2 cards? thanks
post #8 of 35
youd be better off with a 240 and a 120, make sure you measure for push/pull clearance above your mobo too

Sadly with the crosshair V in the case i cannot have push pull all inside the case, i can however mount the rad inside and have 2 120mm fans outseide, i cannot do a push-pull on the top rad, but i can on the rad in the front of the case.

338

if this works i will have lots of space in the case (HDD cages are removed) along with the plastic stand off in the bottom, allowing me plentoy of room for push pull and the pump to be mounted there.

let me know what you think
you shud do a 120 push/pull up front, and a 240 up top
