SSD usage make PSU sqeal (TX-650w)

Thread Starter
My PSU does that sound with any SSD ...

Sorry for IPOD quality video.
4th rma off 5 corsair PSU.

TX-650 is made by 3 company, this one a v2 i think.

Had to return two of these, One twice, also had to return a cx-600w ... I was under the impression that Corsair PSU were of good quality.
it is good quality lol...

Did you try maybe RMA-ing your SSD? lol

Sounds like capacitors squealing, but no big deal in my opinion.

My previous 650W Corsair, and my current 600W OCZ ModXStream PSU both make similar capacitor squealing noises to some varying degree of intensity, typically when doing something intensive like playing Crysis and running the WEI benchmarks.

For all intents and purposes I thought this was normal. Never really bothered me, and the Corsair has lasted me several years before I sold it.

yeah my tx650m was doing that before too, but as soon as i start adding more components like a high end gpu, more ssds etc, it went away. never heard it again since then

I had just swapped the main SSD from a F120 (doing the same) to this petrol 128. Not an upgrade, I know. but my F120 was doing ~50mbs.

You were right the F90 in this machine is not causing this sound. (much quieter)

Yes I did have to RMA four Corsair PSU, the only concerned were TX650, and the 600w builder series.

In a sample of ~60 PSU, 20 model they are at 2nd top of failure rate, next to 7 RMAs of the infamous OCZ 1000w B-stock, but that's to be expected smile.gif

This rig has two PSU, so next reboot I'll plug it into the 2nd PSU and if there is no sound this Corsair is going to get sold for 20$...

thats only CX.

AX - Obviously shouldn't fail, nor HX, and no problems with my GS ever tongue.gif

TX: dunno
CX: bottom line dirt model.

if you really have concerns, try a seasonic.

TX650s are seasonic, the TX650m is different but the standard model is already seasonic AFAIK.
Edit: TX650m is CWT built. It's strange that you're having that whine, could just be that the PSU doesn't like very minor loads on the 5V rail.

I get the same thing on my Corsair TX-950w when running benchies with AS-SSD or Crystal Diskmark. PSU seems fine to me though
