[Question] Upgrade to SSD...

Thread Starter
Hello guys,
So recently I thought about upgrading my rig, and as I'm on tight budget, I have the following options:
1.Buy a 64GB M4 Crucial SSD for OS and a new cpu cooler to overclock from 3.6 to 4GHz+
or
2.Wait 2-3 months to buy another 6970/6950 and a PSU to crossfire with my current 6970.

I wasn't sure where to post this..
Anyway - my target is games and overall speed, so which of these is a better option?
(when I choose one I won't be able to upgrade for a long time)

Thanks in advance.

NOTES:
*My mobo has sata 2 (just wanted to mention that)
*I'm not going to upgrade my mobo

SSD + Cooler.

I'd rather have faster Boots and a higher OC than have to deal with Crossfire issues.

Want more FPS? -> GFX card

Want overall better PC experience? -> SSD

Thanks for answering I guess I will go with SSD + extra OC as this is much easier for me financially than the other one.
But does the fact I have sata 2 and not 3 affects the speed? I dont really care about direcet copy/paste - I mean on overall speed for example as mentioned above - booting.
BTW how else will the SSD affect me?

Edit: I got another question - I got both internal and external (hot swap) 2.5" bays.
Where should I put it?
I already connected the external bay to the mobo in addition I'm lazy,
is there a difference? cons/pros?

SATA 3Gb/s vs 6Gb/s not a big deal.

Read this for the rest: www.overclock.net/t/1179518/seans-ssd-buyers-guide-information-thread

You can put the SSD wherever it fits.

Last questions:
My current windows partition is 40GB full, and you said that the lower free space the slower it is, is these 20 would be enough?

Should I clone my windows partition or start a fresh one? I preffer migrating (I'm lazy) but if there are high chances of problems that might occur I'll do a fresh installation.
Thanks.

the SSD is the single best upgrade anyone can do for the money. i put in a crucial m4 128GB and windows starts in literally 2 seconds. being that the HDDs are the biggest bottleneck in any PC its worth upgrading.

as far as the GPU, you can afford to wait a while and save up for a single-GPU solution which is generally better for two reasons: multi-gpu's heat up faster allowing for less overclocking and there are many times driver issues. the 6970 you have can still hold it's ground for another year at least with ultra settings on BF3, then just lower the settings to High and you can get more out of it.

i first bought an SSD and then a second 6950 crossfire. the SSD made the biggest difference. there was no noticeable difference with the 6950 other than benchmarks.

start fresh, format your PC because it's less buggy and you are going to have to re-install all non-windows software to your HDD so you gotta do alot of installing-reinstalling anyway if you just mirror it. btw there was a guide somewhere on how to install the bare minimum of windows on your SSD. like 30gb instead of 40. look it up.

go with SSD + cooler
