GTX 680 SLI OC Problem

Thread Starter
I was running 1 680 at +132, +150, +550 and it flew thru benchmarks and passed every stress test. I added my 2nd card today and I can't even set them both at +132, +100, +350.

Anyone else having an SLI problem? I am going to try switching the cards spots later, reseating, and just trying to OC the new card by itself, but before I did all that I wanted to know if anyone else had problems.

I can't get passed Stage 4 Tessellation in 3DMark11 with even a small OC on SLI.

EDIT: I also have both fans set to 65% minimum and it's not helping.

No issues here.

Haven't tried each on individually, but I'm able to run in sync at +181 clock offset, +500 (less than 580 really) memory offset, power at 115%, and fans at 85%.

Try to run each one in your system to see what the max is before it crashes. Heaven has been more intensive for me than 3DMark11 for crashes.

Damn.

I hope it's not the new card. I'll have to reseat later.

Aha! I run MSI Combustor and ONLY card 1 actually shows a jump in GPU clock and Voltage. And only card 1 heats up. No idea whats going on.

Im sure youve looked at this, but youve checked to make sure SLI is enabled in NVCP right? Not one card set to physx and the other for full use?

Yep. It's set to Maximize 3D performance. PhysX is set to choose. I'm not sure what is going on, but when I run them at stock for 3DMark11 I get a score over 14k, so they are both working. I'm confused. haha.

I can't get anything stable over something like +75 on the core and +250 mem. I think the second card is killing me.

Try removing the top one and running with just the bottom. Find out what the max of the bottom is on it's own. Most everyone that I can see has been able to get at least +100 clock.

What are your max temps? Is it hitting that magical 70* mark? You may need to set fan speed to max to keep temps below 70*C and I don't think 65% will do it. I have a fan sitting below the bottom card and one of fan shroud on the hdd cage helping with cooling, too. Another thing, I turned off all those AA settings in Nvidia and I was able to get through 3DMk11 and Heaven and it increased my numbers - don't Nvidia forcing things on benchmarks or game settings. I want to control all settings via the game or benchmark. Here's my custom fan speed settings. My temps max at 66* with a clock setting (130-155-400) of 16157. But when I went to a 450 memory clock, the card it 70* and downclocked the card and scored lower even though it was a higher clock. (see 2nd screenshot). You probably know this, but you must keep temps below 70*. I may just have to have it ramp straight to 85* and maybe I can go a bit higher.

0-50 - 30%
55- 70%
70- 75%
80 - 80%
higher - 85% (capped in software)

It's not a temp problem as my idle temps are 30C and 29C and when I'm running Heaven they are in the 60's. I had 2x GTX 570's OC'd and they never got above 68C while running Kombustor with this same fan setup. Card #1 was doing fine and not downclocking at all and set at +150, +550 and having no heat issues.

I'm not having any heat issues now, but anything over +75 with the second card black screens 3DMark11 and fails in Heaven 3.0.

Frustrated now. I'm thinking the second card I got from EVGA Step-Up is just boinked.

EDIT: Holy crap. Maybe it is a heat issue. Just sitting on the loading screen for Metro 2033 makes both cards jump from 28-30 to almost 60 at STOCK. ***! My 570 SLI run a hell of a lot cooler with the same setup. Yikes!

EDIT2: With 1 card I get 120fps VSync in WoW and with 2 cards I get 80fps. Yet, the score in 3DMark11 went up 5k at stock with 2. No idea what's going on.

EDIT 3: Turned BF3 to ULTRA on everything. 120+ FPS and temps under 63C at stock. I'll just wait for drivers I guess.
