so you dont think that i can get my CPU to 4.0 just with my Hyper 212+?
You think its possible to do so with just moving the multiplier or does the cpu run more efficient if i start using the FSB?

well im pretty confident the cooler i have should keep my temps down, i think my air cooling set up is pretty good. Ive done a lot of different tests with different variations of the fans to keep proper air flow and keeping everything cool. Im learning more and more everyday about OC so im willing to take some risks. Ive seen those noctuas but to be honest im not a big fan of their design.
I guess i started messing with the ram because i was planning on keeping the cpu at 3.7, and was going to work on the NB just because after playing BF3 i always get the "system low on memory resources" message and then my computer reduces to windows basic. NOT a big deal, but i feel like my computer should be able to run windows with all settings and battlefield3 with ultra settings no problem (BTW i dont get any lag on bf3, not 60 fps, but pretty close ~40's or so i would say) So i thought maybe its my NB, and ive heard a lot of people saying 2600+ on NB freq gives quite a boost in performance so i decided to try it..
BUT NOW i want to get to 4.0. I see so many people do it, i say why not me.
So maybe ill drop back down on NB freq if i find out its stable at current clock speeds, and then OC to 4.0 and see if i can run stable. Then once again increase NB and see if i can get it stable. what you think?

I'll be replacing an unlocked 4.0GHz B55 with a 960T this weekend, I'm looking forward to it. I figure I'll get 4.0+ on less volts as a quad than the B55, but hopefully 4.0 as an X6.

I keep seeing people wanting to disable C states and CnQ. Is there a problem getting these stable with power saving enabled? My goal is to have full power-saving capabilities.

i have it now at 3.9...i shoulda gone for the 4.0 but it was late and i didnt want to mess with settings...so i have it at 1.4V and 3.9 GHz...its been on prime for about 13 hours now and so far so good. Max Temp i got so far is 45C (on air). Which im really not to crazy about i want it lower, but i think it will only happen whenever i get watercooling.
Tonight though i will be boosting to 4.0, not sure if im going to try to max it out...i might just keep it on 4.0.

The reason people like to turn of CnQ /turbo is because it automatically changes voltages and speeds i believe. I know turbo turns on whenever it feels that the computer is slowing down, and ive read of people who see that their computer still reads as 3.0, not the 3.4 with Turbo. If you do end up overclocking your computer and you still have turbo on, you will get instability due to that the CPu will still add those 400mhz, and you might not have your voltage set to be able to handle that extra boost. Its better to just have it off and clock the speeds you want to have as well as your voltage.
I also noticed that when i had CnQ on, my stock voltage was at 1.425. When i turned it off, my stock voltage went down to 1.35. After that is when i tried overclocking again and now i have no problems, so far.
It is also very possible to run it as a x6 at 4.0. Seen many others be able to do it, lowest i think i saw was 3.7 as a x6. But many still stick with just using it as a x4, since there really isnt much to gain from x4 to x6 becuase most applications dont really utilize all four cores. Not unless your doing some streaming or using some heavy threading apps.

By the by, anyone know of some decently priced cpu fans with PWM control i could use on my hyper212? (with or w/o LEDs)

i really am trying not to be reckless. I hope the way i'm going about this isnt reckless. becuase i dont want to burn anything out.
so what route will you be taking? Are you goin to raise fsb, lower multiplier and try to get a stable OC that way? or just push the multiplier and see if you can keep it stable like that?
BTW, i got 3.9Ghz @ 1.4V, 44-45C (load) w/ 2800NB @ 1.275V Stable RAM running at 1600mhz, with 9-9-9-25 Timings. What do you thinK?
(all i did was raise multiplier though to x20)
3d mark vantage came out with a score of ~14000 which was 500 pts more than when i had it at 3.7, so thats good too right?

i also tried out 4.0 Ghz@ 1.4V, but it did seem like the CPU had to 'think' more to do tasks, so i think all i may have needed was a small bump in voltage, but im gonig to run the computer at 3.9 for a couple days, see if it stays stable with every day use.

I'll be OC-ing the 960T as a quad and hopefully as an X6 this weekend. I'll let you know how it goes.

I'd also take CPU MHz over CPU-NB overclock. The biggest benefits I've seen are synthetic benchmarks and a few games I've never played.

I'm also going to shoot for CnQ ON. The B55 I have runs as a quad with CnQ on at 4.0GHz, I see no reason this chip can't. Why not idle at 900MHz/1.0V?

I don't really think anything 1.5V or under is that risky if it's cool.

I am mid-end player come from Asia.
I am using Unlocked 960T with MSI 990FXA-GD65
With a huge Silver Arrow cooler, My CPU is stable at 200*19.5 3.9Ghz@1.44v
The max temperature was 52℃ in ambient temp 12℃, and 62℃ in 30℃.
(Was using Everest stress test and tick only Stress FPU, It seems the CPU temp was much more higher than Prime95, LinX etc)
All fans in my case were at full speed.


I can't OC my CPU to 4.0Ghz no matter what the voltage,
it just kept unstable in stress tests.
I have tried all the settings in mobo, still, can't stable at 4.0Ghz.


Also, I tried OC my CPU using 970A-GD65,
and mobo blew up by vrm dead.
