Sleeving Questions

Thread Starter
I'm going to dive into sleeving my first PSU. I've almost gathered all the tools I need.

I just have a few questions before I pull the trigger and buy everything.

I'm going to sleeve a good quality PSU as mine is generic and I want a solid PSU to OC my 7970/2600k on.

For a beginning sleever, which PSU is 'easier':

(I really don't want to splice any wires or have to de-solder anything.)
SeaSonic P860w or Corsair AX850w or something else? (At least 80+Gold Certification is a req for my new PSU)

For the 6+2pin connections, how do the wires look?
Are they able to be sleeved without any extra work?
I'm looking to be able to just pull the wire out, put some sleeve on it and put it back in. One at a time, to make sure I don't ruin my PSU.

Thank you for your help. thumb.gif

Ok well, I haven't sleeved myself, but I know a little bit. Firstly I'm pretty sure both the corsair and the seasonic will be similarly difficult to sleeve, that being said, Corsair has very good customer service if you stuff something up (not sure about Seasonic customer service).

6+2 Looks like this http://lian-li.com/v2/tw/product/upload/image/pss/psu%20pcie%206%202pin.jpg

Shouldn't be any more difficult than your normal 6 pin.

You might like to buy a mod kit, they come with tools that make it easier to remove and put back in the pins.

Okay. I've already got the tools to remove the pins.

If the 6+2s are simple and they are both equally difficult, I guess I will just have to be patient. Thanks for your help!

Thanks. I've already read through all of lutro0's tutorials and watched most of the videos. I got myself a beta-tool on the way too. biggrin.gif

Right now I am still in the beggining of working to compile a list of psus that are easy to sleeve. What I have right now is that the new silverstone models are non double wired or just have one. Also the 6+2 connectors are just like any other cable to sleeve just one part is not attached. (the new silverstone models do have caps on the pcie cables but they may be removed)

when you pick your sleeving color, don't rule out the possibility of getting white and dyeing it a custom color to match your build. Thread here.
