NEED URGENT THERMAL PASTE ADVICE !!!!!

Thread Starter
I have a CM Hyper 212+ cooler and i5 2500k CPU and i'm confused about how to put a thermal paste on CPU
All i think about is just to put a dot on CPU and then put cooler on it.

I read this is the best way to do to avoid some bubble-stuff, or i don't know what's it called.
But what it worries me is the question, will the paste spread by itself if i go with the dot method ?

What do you think about all of this ?
Thanks

Yes, the paste will spread by itself.

For the 212+ (and all HDT coolers), apply the TIM to the cooler like in this pic:

Wait do i need to put it on CPU also then ?

And what about those bubble-thingy stuff wouldn't it cause that if i go with that way ?
1. Just lay a dot of Thermal Paste, install the CPU cooler, hook up only minimal hardware to run the machine, boot and check temps.
2. Turn off the machine, uninstall the CPU cooler and check how the thermal paste has spread on the CPU and on sink; clean up and spread thermal paste accordingly - more or less of it.
3. Go back to 1... make sure you check temps again.

This.

And no, just on the cooler itself. Don't put any on the CPU too, you'll get too much that way.

Do this method above twice. First time you do it, don't put the cooler on. Wipe the grease off, and do it again, THEN put the cooler on. Reason being, when you wipe the grease off, you'll fill in the gaps between the heatpipes better.

If it were a non HDT cooler or water, then the dot method on the CPU is best. But for HDT coolers, the above is correct.
