Chimp Challenge 2012?? - Page 14

I'm in. Winning would be cool, but it's less important to me - it's the one time a year i get to go all-out for folding! This year, i have more comps, too!

yay.

Zodac wants this:
Quote:

In a fair handicap system, yes, HWC should have won. However, in a fair system overall, there would be some form of recognition (which would influence the result) of the fact that HWC only produced the 6th highest amount of actual points

And THAT is not a fair or handicap race you are trying to make!

A Handicap race is one where, if each racer gives 100%, the finish is a dead heat (all even).

The goal that Zodac has expressed is not an acceptable race ideal - and I don't know how to describe it any better than I have.

As long as Zodac is aiming for a skewed race like she says above, there is no point in working further toward the CC, with her. I will never support a point scheme where the largest teams get special treatment in the handicap portion of the race.

The handicap must be evenly applied to try and make the race perfectly even -- not skewed toward the biggest contributors in recognition of their larger donation to the FAH project.

Why does this competition have to be so fair for Gods sake...its a competition. I.e people are supposed to COMPETE with one another. Trying to make the game all fair and nicey nice stinks of BF3 and MW3, both those games are trying to be equal and frankly its boring.

Just do it normally, yeah maybe some sort of points system that goes from your average ppd and thats how you get one point. But no need to get all farty over this competition not being fair.

Pick a random couple weeks in the past 6 months and whatever our ppd was then, we have to do that to get one point of something. Nothing else needs to change.

I know the HPCS is gonna get in the way, but hasnt it finished now? If the HPCS has stopped, do ppd averge over next week or two, or do it prior to it starting.
We know that in a race using Zodac's formula, OCN would win. Her projections on the EVGA website, show it clearly. The points are skewed to favor bigger teams.

But Zodac insists on her formula, over and over. I've spent a lot of time and tried to explain repeatedly, that a handicap race is one where the racers are set up so each one has an EVEN chance at winning.

Zodac wants her formula used, and it is unacceptable. I'm going back to OCF and HWC forums, to work out some other details. There will be no meeting of the minds, as long as you insist on using a skewed points format.

Use the points from last years CC to determine the chimp points for this year. That way the teams that recruit the best through the year, can get their conversion rate up, improve their folding through the year, are rewarded for it. If teams decide to merge, then they will have to consider if that will be a big handicap for them the following year. It's a way that is fair for ALL teams and it's SIMPLE.

This way teams will be racing each other and themselves from last year. So even if you don't win, but show improvement, then have something to celebrate. This is suppose to be a fun competition held in good spirit. It's being dragged through the mud at the moment.

Why are you bringing video games into this whole ordeal? There's no relation. Average PPD is not possible. It is heavily skewed towards smaller teams.
This disrespect and lack of realization of how complicated everything is annoys me to no end. Not just directed to $ilent but to everyone in this thread that thinks they know better and that there's a single easy obvious solution that was overlooked.

Why should the small teams win, though? If OCN knocks out only 1.3 mil less PPD than EVGA but has just under 90% conversion, while HWC has half the PPDand what was it 95 percent conversion, why should HWC win? Because they got new SR-2 rigs?
