If you mean will it put all the teams on an even footing for the race, with no favorite, then yes, that will be the goal. That is the goal of every handicapped race I know of.

I tried another point system, but the result was EVGA and OCN immediately became #1 and #2, finishers, by a very large margin. Larger teams became favored, in the rest of the finishers positions, as well. Once you start factoring in raw points, in my attempt at least - the baby gets thrown out with the bathwater - and you have no race of any interest to anyone else other than the very largest teams.

Why am I suggesting more formats? Because I'm a glutton for punishment, apparently. wink.gif

Seriously, I'd like every team to like the race format, and I'd like to see the CC move forward, with the whole team concept, and getting more teams into it, etc. I've folded for both teams that originated this race, and I'd like to see it flourish.

Like I said in the captain's forum, Evga are discussing a system which doesn't involve handicaps, but is simpler, and less weighted towards smaller teams (though they include conversion, so it is still biased). If we wanted to hold the CC in May this year, that'd be the best one to tweak and finalise in my opinion.

THIS IS TOO COMPLICATED! Srsly....

Formula (can be tweaked/weighted):
Total Points / number of users = CC score

too simple? idk....seems to work for me....

We all use the same name. How do you see how many users are using it?

Passkeys? Or just don't use the chimp challenge name? I mean honestly if you're folding already what's the difference if you don't change your name? We are looking at points generated by a team in a non-intrusive way; much like statistics on video game sales, or statistics from the latest election.... I can't comprehend why people would be upset that they would be "forced" into a competition.

If you don't enjoy people collecting statistics on you then:
1. Don't ever buy anything with a credit card
2. Don't use the Internet
3. Don't use a cell phone....ever
4. Don't vote
5. Don't travel
6. Actually just don't ever leave your house.

That's a lot of passkeys to track.. for a lot of teams.

As for getting rid of the CC name, as I think I've said a couple of dozen times in this thread, if people can't be bothered changing their name, then we shouldn't have to adapt the contest to allow them to join up with no effort.

Yes, we would get the points/user, but that also throws up two issues:

1) We know those numbers already; it'd be similar to an all-out PPD event - everyone will improve, but you know there'll be a couple of teams at the front who you can't reach.

2) It would promote finding big Folders only. You're gonna try and find 1 guy who can do 100k PPD, rather than 10 guys who can do 100k PPD. Which won't help promote Folding overall.

Rely on the honor system with a sign up sheet for usernames and people folding then? It's a friendly competition for a good cause...idk just a thought.

I'm all about simplicity.

It's easy to manipulate. All you need is one person to want to ruin things, and they could sign up under multiple accounts/names on another team to hurt their performance.

In an ideal world, that wouldn't be an issue... but it would be foolish to just assume no-one would do that.

Then it seems the only feasible method is to approach this with a handicap and do it entirely off of PPD....I'm working on a formula.

EDIT:
Hold that thought need to tweak yet.... tongue.gif

EDIT: This probably needs tweaked as the smaller teams will still be at a disadvantage...however it does level the playing field a bit!

I've got something that SHOULD work:
150

Dis-regard most of the calculations / formulas. But I essentially took 24 hour PPD from the four teams used in the example above which totaled: 75,384,734. Then took the percentage of each team's 24hr output Which came to:
Code:
EVGA 0.29021616
HOCP 0.354978755
OCN 0.242231657
OCM 0.112573429

I took the inverse of these numbers which came to (in percentage form):
Code:
EVGA 71%
HOCP 65%
OCN 76%
OCM 89%
Code:
Scenario: 10 days of CC
Team Total Points Handicap Percentage Score
EVGA 218,778,680 71% 155,332,862.80
HOCP 267,599,790 65% 173,939,863.50
OCN 182,605,690 76% 138,780,324.40
OCM 84,863,180 89% 75,528,230.20

For the above scenario we assume that the 24hr output stated above for each team remains the same (this variable can change and will change) then we multiply it by 10 to get a prediction of what the CC will return. We then multiply it by the handicap percentage to give us the total score as seen in the last column above.

It looks prettier in the excel spreadsheet.

For simplicity the formula would be:

CC Score= (CC points) x (Handicap %)
