Chimp Challenge 2012?? - Page 6

I don't understand the first line, at all.

Does that mean I can Fold under my normal name - "zodac" - and my points will be included in the CC total?

If so, that's basically removing the CC name - there is no effort in that... no need for teamwork to get people to change their names. To sacrafice their own personal points for the sake of their team.

That is correct.

There is a large segment of the folders who have been requesting this change, for a long time. I don't want to tell them "No, we're never going to try it." I want to try it, and if it isn't well received then fine - we change it back and say we tried it and didn't like it. Just saying "no", to their suggestions, over and over, without trying it, is not the way to go, imo.
No. This is no good. It goes completely against the whole premise of the CC. It's supposed to be teamwork. Folding as one big team.

It also takes away the folders right to choose not to fold in the CC. What do you want that person to do? Just stop folding for part of May? Switch to another team?

Perhaps not, but people request a lot of things so they don't have to put in any effort too. The username issue - while a deterrent to people - was not the cause of the problems last year. Why are we going out of way to change every little thing people have an issue with, when there was just one small flaw with last year's set up?

Taking out the number one feature of the CC - that users need to change their username to compete - dilutes the value of the competition. And what are the benefits? So people who don't care about their team enough to switch over to the CC name - people who care more about their own points than that of their team - can take part too?

If people aren't willing to change their name for 10 days in a year, I see no reason why we should cater to them.

The idea is to bring in everyone into the team effort of the CC - they're already ON YOUR TEAM, so they shouldn't need to spend time adjusting their folders to yet another team, to be part of a team race.

Why would anyone NOT want to be a part of their team, in a team race, which puts no extra burden on them?

Yes they should; anyone can enter a team number and Fold for a team. It takes some loyalty and commitment to a team to give up your points for the good of the team. It separates the people who Fold on a team because it was the first one they chose, and people who Fold for the team, because they like the team and their teammates.

If you're not willing to change your name for 10 days, you can't really say you're much of a team member, can you?

It's not about being lazy or selfish - it's about bringing in your entire team, into the race. Some people can't participate because:

1) They are traveling during the set up period, and have no one home to make the change over.

2) They have folders ("borgs") folding in other states, with friends etc., who have no idea how to work the folding client to make the change

3) They have too many folders to spend the time to change them all over.

The ONLY reason it was done this way in the first CC, is because the racing folders were on sub-teams, and we had no way to separate them if they didn't use a unique racing name (from the rest of the team's points).

It's about having a race, not about testing the loyalty or dedication to the team, of the team members.

It's about being a team race too

1) For people travelling, they can't change the name early?

2) Legitimate reason, but they can change over their own clients. Surely for the majority, that would be most of their points converted?

3) Meaning they can't be bothered?

I'll be honest, if this is the direction you guys want to take, perhaps we may as well end discussions now. I haven't seen the new "Boost" format, but everything else in this thread gives the impression that we've simply got differing opinions on how to move forward.

It also stops a perverse race vulnerability, which is the passkey.

Anyone who learns your passkey can sabotage your team, very dramatically. You know what I'm talking about, right?

With this "whole team" format, that vulnerability is removed completely.

No, because you don't want to give the passkey out, until the last few days.

They cared enough to join the team in the first place. That SHOULD be caring enough. It's a race, and not a dedication test mechanism.

Easily sorted; have multiple passkeys. We've got about 7 or 8 set up for our CC name, all qualified for bonuses.

You can find a few people to prep some passkeys without much difficulty.
