But if this is the direction the CC is moving towards, I want no part in it.

If you aren't willing to captain the team for the CC then rather than speak for the entire team I would prefer you just don't act as CC captain. I don't think that the entire team should be deprived of the CC because you don't like the direction it's going in. Maybe that's going too far, but at least put whatever the format would be to a vote to see if OCN wants to participate, then the the majority wants to participate but you still don't want to captain us, then let someone else captain us for the CC. I recognize that their may be a format that OCN feels would be worse than no CC at all, but I feel like that should be put to a vote rather than one person speak for everyone and say that OCN as a whole will not enter.

Take care of your father Xav.

thx...I will

just salvage the CC. remake it if you can - we have to revamp and attract more teams
the bickering has to end

find something simple - something everyone can live with that's all I ask
something we can convince new teams to accept as well.

Absolutely not. I will not participate in a contest I don't want to participate in... and if Folding for OCN during it means participating, I'll stop.
Zodac said he'd arrange a vote. The results will represent what our F@H community wants for itself.

Hope your dad is ok Xavier. :(

juano, I never said the team would pull out because I wasn't happy with the system. It would go to a vote, and if the team wanted to take part, then someone else would obviously take over the role from me. I think you'll agree though, that unless it was a majority vote, pulling out would be preferred - things might not end up well with half the team wanting to take part and half not.

However, I did take back that comment. :P Gonna try to bring in a third-party - and someone with a bit more knowledge with this kind of situation than us - and see if we can come to some sort of an agreement that way.

Yes I agree that the majority would have to want to participate. I'm just of the opinion that a less than ideal CC format is still better than a CC without OCN. However I'm also of the opinion that we should work out the ideal format with an eye towards the future and make that change now. Even if it means that the first CC with the new format will suck because we don't have enough information to make it as close as we'd like, if we need a not close one to have good info to make the next one closer then so be it. I just want a system that is workable for the foreseeable future and that can accommodate changes based on what was learned from the previous year.

You mention bringing in a third party, anybody know if blitz has any opinions about the format? If he has an opinion and isn't just nonplussed about it, then I would expect it to be a good one, and the attitude of a lawyer might come in handy here.

A less than ideal format, I could agree with. A format that would be bad this year, but we could use it as a stepping stone and improve on it next year, fine with that too. But in my eyes, the formats suggested so far are neither - they're far less than ideal, and I can't imagine we'd learn much from a failure this year (whereas last year's formula, however, could be seen as a bad year from which we learn mistakes, and try to rectify it).

I like the idea of using the stats from the previous year's CC for the chimp points. That way teams that recruit the best through the year are to be rewarded for it.

Well glad we agree. smile.gif

As for the bold, well that's why I've only been arguing semantics, motivations, and other big picture stuff, because I won't pretend to have as strong a grasp on all the details of the various formats going around as you have.

Keep trying your best to get something that will work, I don't envy you and the task ahead of you.

Sorry to hear about your Father, Xavier.

I'd like to hear what format you'd like to have for the race. Now's the time for that discussion. Right now, I can't think of any other handicap format that would be suitable for the CC, except the one's I've mentioned in this thread.

The "whole" team idea is one that is here to stay. It's been missed for a long time now. It shouldn't be a deal breaker for anyone, because it is applied equally to every team. It is not a good test for team loyalty, but it is absolutely fair to every team, but I quickly note that the handicapping will have to accommodate this change, as a result - understood, and I'll deal with that.

All of this "wrangling" about the race, will fade quickly into the background as soon as the race starts - don't worry. The fun is out there, just waiting. biggrin.gif

@CSM

The CC has ALWAYS been a team or sub-team event. Never a personal one. The ONLY reason the racing sub-teams used the same folding name was so that their points in the race, could be identified, separate from the teams they were in.

When the sub team race gave way to a whole team race, the "same folding name" idea, was seen as somewhat "elite", and so was kept in place. It's past time for that "elite" idea, to disappear. We are on a team. If the team races in a team race, it's certainly better to have the whole team with you, don't you think?

We want to draw larger circles that brings teammates in - not have a loyalty test that cuts teammates out.
