Your Unlocked Cores - Still Going? - Page 3

Phenom II X2 555 unlocked to B55 X4 from day one about 14 months ago on an M4a87td-evo.
Currently at 3700-2400cpu_nb with 1.356-1.225 voltages with cool&quiet on.mostly i run it at these settings 10 hours per day.
If i need more power then it goes to 4124-26++ with 1.45-1.30 stable whatever i do with cool&quiet on again.
Max stable overlcock 4.374-2843 with 1.584-1.37 voltages.obviously i do not run it at those voltages 24h/d.
Firstly on a hyper 212+ p/p but about 2 months ago i bought an Nh-D14 to be safe from temps as we cant see them tongue.gif

Can pass super pi 1m at 4.455-2895 with the above voltages but not fully stable.Pic is as a dual core but it is tha same as a 4core.

Here is a run as a fourth core.

A rig I built for my best friend has two additional unlocked cores, all cores overclocked, and has been going strong for over a year now.

Chip is Phenom II 555.

Phenom II X2 550BE, working fine as an X4 B50 since January at 3.5 GHz, with just a slight boost in voltage for stability. Runs very cool on a Hyper 212+. I could probably get more than 3.5 if I cared to.

this is why I loved AMD the past few years. phenom II's unlocking to quad cores. semprons unlocking to dual cores etc. BD ruined it all. just saying

Im still hopeing on piledriver/steamroller. the old amd is not gone thou, those apus give you $100 cpu and $70 gpu all for $135. Im curios to see what gpus trinity can crossfire with, probabley 7750/7770. One ghz 7770 plus next gen apu would make a killer low cost setup. Im going to wait... If bulldozer-piledriver is like phenom-phenom ii, alot of those people who jumped ship to low end intels could be comeing back

Thread Starter
Well after 3 years and 1 month (16+ hours a day) of running my X2-550 (C2) as a X4-965 (using all default settings, Voltages, etc) seems my unlocked cores have bit the dust! mad.gif

About 2 weeks ago I started to notice a lot of Whea-Logger errors in Win7, then started to get some Kernel Event Tracing Errors, then it started to BSOD from cold boot. When I'd try to run a game it wouldn't start, in task manager I'd see the game exe not using any CPU usage and the run32 dll using 25% (like 1 core @ 100%).

I was just about to order a new mobo+CPU then figured maybe I should go back to Dual Core, .... yep that was it, all the errors went away, been running flawless for a week now.

I may try setting it to an X3 yet hehe, but will need to flash the BIOS to get that "per core" option.

Oh well , quad was fun while it lasted! tongue.gif

EDIT:
Raised the vdimm from 1.50 to 1.55 and seems to have solved the unlocked cores problem, but I'm guessing the problem has more to do with the IMC needing more V to run as a quad and not the ram?
Oh well I just ordered a new cpu+mobo+ram combo so will just use this X2/board/ram to upgrade my old HTPC.
