Back in the saddle with the 2500K - Page 2

Thread Starter
Well...

I decided to try to setup a VM, However there appears to be a problem with the installer as I have now tried 4 different downloads from 3 sources and cannot seem to get the VM player to get past the first screen "open file - security warning" Tell it to run and get the vmware player setup window but the window itself is blank. I have to shut it down through the task manager.

Should I try a different version other than v 3.0.0?

thanks

Im using V3.0.0, (don't let it update when it asks) with ubuntu 10.10. Also make sure you intel virtualization technology enabled in your BIOS or it won't work.

can you post a picture of the error you're getting? I've not encountered that problem.

It's tough to see the in the image but is that happening when you are trying to install VM player or when you try to load the vmx image?

When I am trying to install the VM Player...

The setup window is just blank, Nothing comes up to install the program. There is also no cpu time assigned in the task manger.

Would the Virtual machine still work with a differnt version of the Player??

As you said I only need 4 cores so the 8 thread Vmplayer is not neccesary?

edit: fixed the first image btw

Try the latest VM player which should be 4.0 then and see how that works for you. But an issue of not even being able to install the program shouldn't be an issue with the program or anything, that should be a problem with your machine.

Since you only have 4 cores, use any VM Ware version.

3.0.0 is used when somone has a chip with more than 4 cores. The free VM Ware versions only support using 4 cores, but 3.0.0 can be hacked to use more. If you continue to have problems, try Virtual Box by Oracle.

I have the same problem with version 4.0.2 install as well. So something is up with my system.

I will have to investigate further at a later time.
