HELP with ds3, e6300 oc'ing

Thread Starter
Hi again. First I would like to thank everyone that contributed to my ocing needs. It is very appreciated.

Anyways, I got my e6300 to 3.3, but now I am sure I have done something wrong. On my "rated fsb" it says its at 1900, which is around 700 more than many of yours.

I have increased fsb, changed ram to 1:1, and changed the latency to 5. I have also increased the g(mch) to +01, because it is to my understanding that this increases the vcore? I am also dual priming on the screenshot. Prime reports an error at 3.5ghz, but my temps are very cool with the thermalright ultra120. It's at 40 degrees on speedfan, and 56d core average using intel tat.

Thanks for the help, I am definite that I am doing something wrong. Also, if I were to want to go further, how would i bypass the errors found on prime? I heard by increasing the vcore, but I do not know what option that is.

Thanks again.

edit: sorry here is the screenshot:

I am not sure how v-core is listed on your motherboard but g(mch) doesn't sound right. You seem to need a small boost in vcore but your temps are close to max comfortable load temps (mclt from here on out). You need to do two things, first I need a list of the options in your bios, detaled if possible. Next bump it back up to where you failed prime but run memtest so you can rule out your memory.

I wouldnt go any higher with those temps. Do you OC in your bios or in windows and do you use the latest CPU-Z and system bios?

Hey I'm also overclocking a Gigabyte board, do you mind posting your VCore, VDimm, (G)MCH and FSB voltages? (the last two being in the form of +0.x )

I'm at 3.2, but my temps seem alot lower than yours. Dual Prime I was hitting 50MAX, but it mostly hovered around 48.... which is suprising considering my inferior cooling, but maybe my ambient temps are also lower.

For my 3.2 I have VCore @ 1.325 and VDimm @ 2.0, G(MCH) is @ +0.1.

ON TOPIC:

Did you disable EIST and all the other unnessairy BIOS options? I wouldn't go much past 57 with TAT.

Regards,

Jimmy

Try full load with TAT then.. seems to run quite a lot warmer. At 3.2 I get to 58C in TAT, but like 48-50 in P95 (with dual instances)

But well, my opinion is that you would normally never reach that type of load on your processor, at least not for the coming 2 years.

When playing Oblivion for hours it barely reaches 50C (mostly 45-48), and that's one of the most demanding games for your rig rigt now. so i'd say that if you don't do extreme multitasking you are fine by just running 2x P95 for max load temp..

Yeah, I did try Intel and was hitting 55C... but why mess with tradition :-) I do alot of folding, but that stresses the CPU even less than Orthos, I can get temps as low as 45 full load when folding.

Wow jimmy, you have it at less than 50 with ac freezer 7 and at 3.2? How is that possible? I'm using a lapped and AS5 applied thermalright ultra-120 with a 2000rpm fan...

and maybe its your motherboard. I've only heard about the s3, but I didn't know it could overclock like that. On hindsight, perhaps I should have gone with that instead of the famed ds3, as it is 30 bucks cheaper and seems to do the same work.

but anyways, I heard for TAT you can go up to 80C because it measures the core which can go higher than the suggested 55 of the cpu surface.
