I am new to the FX series I just upgraded my motherboard and I wanted to get a new Phenom II but none of the local stores can get any in my price range so I just ordered this new CPU AMD FX-6100 Zambezi 3.3GHz Socket AM3+ 95W Six-Core Desktop Processor FD6100WMGUSBX
I don't play any hard core games yet cause I am still building this system. I see this CPU has very good feed back on New Egg. Will this be a good choice? also please no Intel fan boys with rude comments about AMD I always loved AMD LOL I also see that this new CPU can OC very well alot better then the Phenom II's I plan to keep the old Phenom II X4 955 and put it in my other ASUS mobo as a spare computer.
I also plan to buy a 500GB WD Black SATA 3 hard drive next month for my boot drive.

System spec's as of now:
Windows 7 home premium 64 bit Retail
8GB Kingston HyperX Genesis KHX1600C9D3K2/8GX 1600MHz Gaming memory
Sapphire Radeon HD 5770 XFX HD-577A-ZNFC(Juniper XT) 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 video card
ASUS M5A97 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.9GHz OC Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor HDZ955FBGMBOX
Altec Lansing ACS48 2.1 Computer Speakers 175W
Western Digital wd20ears Caviar Green 2tb sata2
Cooler Master Elite 310
CaseCooler Master V6 with dual 120mm LED fans
LG Flatron E2241 Super Full HD LED 22 inch monitor
Logitech Wave keyboard
Microsoft Comfort Mouse 4500 (IntelliPoint)
Cooler Master Silent Pro M 700W power supply

have you pulled the trigger on the 6100 if not take a look at the FX6200

Whale cum to OCN!

While the fx6100 looks good on paper, Unfortunately it lacks in practicality..... Personally you would be sidegrading if you are coming from an 955...
Unless you OC the 6100. But even then a 960t would do better. The only FX worth getting is the 8120.

And be prepared for every to say

Y U NO GET 2500k!
Small wonder.

That system should do fine for most games, the GPU will limit you before the CPU, however if you do decide to go with a more hard-core video card down the road a Bulldozer CPU may start to become the limiting factor. If you already have a PII X4 955 it's probably not worth getting the Bulldozer, it's an extremely lackluster CPU.

You should just bought a phenom ii x6, it's faster, cooler, less power hungry, and cheaper. There is no reason to buy a quad core and six core BD, at least for now.

You did it backwards you should come here for advice BEFORE buying a cpu if you don't know how powerful it is.

As stated the 8120 is the only FX to get and it's still not very good.

The FX-6XXX series is more like a 3 core with hyperthreading than a traditional 6 core cpu.
