Purchasing new 680 Need Help!

Thread Starter
ok ive decided on getting a 680 just torn between

Asus GTX680-2GD5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 Chipset (1058Mhz) 2GB (6008MHz) GDDR5 Dual DVI/DisplayPort/HDMI PCI-Express 3.0 Graphics Card
and
Zotac (ZT-60101-10P) GeForce GTX 680 2GB nVidia GeForce GTX 680 Chipset (1006Mhz) 2GB GDDR5 (6008Mhz) Dual Display DVI/HDMI/Display Port PCI-Express 3.0 Graphics Card

or anyone that you recommend, it will be used for a tri-monitor setup only 1 1080p atm, will eventually expand to SLI x2 min. properly liquid cooled and OC'ed

which card should i keep a watch out for and why?

thanks OCN!

EVGA, MSI, ASUS, and PNY are my top recommendations.

EVGA has the best customer service and the friendliest attitude towards card mods and such. Plus, I like the look of their 680. They also sell branded backplates and high air flow brackets. They have a Step Up program where if you get an extended warranty, you can upgrade your GPU to a new one if it comes out within 90 days, paying the difference in cost. They also offer cross-shipping for warranties now. This is less objective, but they tend to have the best reputation in general.

MSI and ASUS both have 3-year warranties if I recall correctly, and are well known and respectable companies. I believe they, like EVGA, tie the warranty to the product and therefore you can boast about that if you later sell it used -- your buyer can still use the warranty.

PNY is a little less well-loved for customer service, but their 680 comes with a free HDMI cable (MSRP $30 higher, but most sites have a $30 mail-in rebate too), and while their warranty is 1-year, it is upgradable to lifetime for free if you register it in the first 30 days. Unlike the others, their warranty is not transferable with the card, so it'll be worth less used.

The other brands are pretty good too, none of them are crappy by any means. Galaxy, Zotac, and perhaps Gainward are the least well known though (and I've heard of some warranty issues with Zotac, but Google yourself), but still fine. Until some non-reference designs start arriving, this is all we can compare them on.

From my experience you don't need to get an extended warranty. As long as its within the 90 day period, you can participate in the Step Up program. At least that was how it was for me anyway

$30 HDMI cable?

Also PNY's "lifetime" warranty is lifetime of the product, that is until it's EOL, or about 2-3 years. EVGA's lifetime warranty is for as long as you have the product.

But like I said, you can usually find the card for $500 still tongue.gif Something free is better than nothing free.

I knew it was for the product lifetime, but I didn't know it was that short. Thanks!
And I don't believe EVGA offers lifetime warranty on everything, just very specific products (not their 680s yet), though you can pay to upgrade the 3-year to 5 or 10 year.

the Zotac 680 comes with Assassins Creed, Assassins Creed 2, and Assassins Creed Revealations games, but I like EVGA 680 more because it looks cooler and EVGA has the best customer service.
