You just linked something where Dothan @ 2.50ghz was better than the FX 2.60ghz......don't you see that they're clock for clock and Dothan is still better......What proof are you talking about when you're providing them?

He asked for proof that a 2.5ghz Intel processor spanks a 3.5ghz AMD one, something not even the current Core 2 Duos can accomplish.

So I am assuming the Yorkfield Intel CPU (Supposed to be release Q3 2007) is the quad core counterpart to this one. If so, yummy.

The point is, this will most likely be out WAY before AMD even thinks about 45nm. K8L isnt a threat to Intel. Re-vamping an ancient technology might let them catch up to intel, but then what do they do to stay ahead? Re-vamp the re-vamped old tech? They need to sit down and remake an entire architechture just as Intel has.
Pentium 3 - Pentium M - Core - Core 2 All revamping, not an entirely new architecture, and whats wrong with that? Core2 performs very well for being a beefed up Pentium 3.

AMD's K10 which is planned for 2h' 08 is a completely new architecture on the other hand. nm's dont necessarily win the cpu war.

And I was commenting on all the people are are so afraid for AMD's survival.. or whatever.

Jori's got it, nm doesn't win the war (even though it's apparently helping intel a whole lot ). AMD still has the better 90nm designs, Once they get familiarized with 65nm it'll be hitting all-new performance levels.

Toms doesn't have the lowest C2D, the E6300, but the E6400 beats the FX-55 easily. Overclock the FX-55 to 3.5 fine, then overclock the E6400 and it will still be on top.

Regardless, this thread is supposed to be about a 45nm CPU from Intel....not another fight about who is better AMD or Intel. You really have to step back and re-evaluate when you are debating which of two fictional CPUs is better, as this 45nm is not out and testing and neither is AMDs K10.

At stock speeds they might........overclocked is a different story, hence, this is not stockclock.net.

Uhh....

Thanks for the link. That really helped prove my point. I mean, how could a single-core AMD processor not be whopped by a dual-core Core 2 processor?

Do the math; compare the ratios of the claim that a 2.5ghz Intel beats a 3.5ghz AMD; 2500/3500 * 2800(FX-62) = 2000. Despite that, the 2.1ghz E6400 gots whomped by the 2.8ghz FX-62, so it's impossible that a 2.5ghz Core 2 Duo will beat an X2 @ 3.5ghz.

3.0ghz, sure, but not 2.5ghz.

I just have to say, with the way things are going, octo processor's are just hanging around the corner, and with 45nm options for intel, I have to say, it won't be long before intel's "flagship" processor, makes the latest amd (what's out now...fyi...) seem like half the man or thing it used to be.

Technically if amd threw a fx-62... on a lovely r600.... bam, video gaming bottleneck fixed. lol.

But still, amd still needs to "get up there" with their x2 series, and similar. I don't see them actually beating or getting close to intel in the next year or two. However 3+ years, are still indeterminate. I'm guessing 2008 will be the "prime" year for both processor companies, and buisnesses. We're going to see a helluvalot new processor's come out by 2008-2010. And hell... gotta remember, by 2010, this chat forum topic will be like, talking about pentium 2's, or 286's.....O_O
