Other than tech sites--either on OCN or news-articles generally linked on OCN--has anyone seen even a commercial for a WP? I haven't. Has MS and phone OEMs even made marketing strategies beyond the "smoked" campaign? And then when that blew up in their face by the power-user who was denied his victory, that went viral. Like a lot of things, I don't think their perceived failure (well, perhaps failure is a bit harsh) is because their OS won't be appealing to people--I think it's because people don't even know about it in general. If all you do is target CES attendees and people who frequent tech enthusiast sites, you're really screwing the pooch.

I think WP has huge potential to displace dumbphones. It is a much less intimidating interface just by appearance. If Nokia and AT&T did some sort of intro campaign where you get your phone and then something like free data package for a year (maybe like a 1GB/mo plan), I am sure that a lot of people would flock to this thing--you reel in users by giving them a comp'd data plan, and then they adopt the OS. I am wondering why they don't work this sort of thing out. Maybe even for the first...'X' number of users to renew/extend a contract with a new WP device (where X is like a million, since that's what they were hoping the early-adopter numbers to be around).

WP7? no thanks.. I had experienced with Wp7 for few months then ditched wp7 for android phone.. I don't think Windows Phone is the best operating system in the world. then tell me why MSFT killed Kin phone has the best operating system in first place, and abandoned the kinphone users who stuck with 2 years agreement contact from Verizon wireless.

I think there was a rumor that they'd pick it up at the end of the year.

The Kin was atrocious. It was buggy and slow. And it was built on Java.

nha the reason window phone arent picking up is because of a lot of reason !sellers cut have been bigger on android then window phone, you cannot try window phone and lot of sellers wont display active one like android or apple because of the way ms go at it if said unit is stolen!(mall seller for exemple)those two reason a lone is a huge check against ms possible success!last but not least often a seller sold k s and k s of smartphone under android or apple ,so since he knows pretty much everybody around is on android or apple ,he ll push what is there and condone what isnt!bad manner?i bet seller would say sue me!only possible way to know the power of wp is via ms own site !you dont have a ms store around then you ll probably be force fed a andrdoi and maybe a ios unit but your seller wont even mention window even if you ask him!in fact he ll probably steer you clear of a window unit!sadly tehy will have to show off window capabilty.most see it and are like !men there is almost nothing on the screen so its less powerfull right?android or apple has more icon so they are more powerfull right?stupiid i know but it is like that!it is like there is only a single core proc in window so its leass then other !poeple dont understand that ms is very actively accelerating everything via gpu so the cpu is just a fetcher !even if nokia doesnt make it,one thing is sure!ms have a lot of people comited to this so dont sweat it,engineer are probably working on the cool factor as we speak!check xbox!it came late to the party ,was checked as bof at best!ms engineer invent kinect!and suddenly xbox lame console became THE item to get!
what would be cool for ms smartphone to bring in user?beats me,but i am pretty sure ms will find the kinect of the smartphone and bring in lot of user!gaming is the hot ticket so if i was in ms spot i would focus on this!ms will also need to tweak their smartphone to get rid of bufferbloat!

Yeah, Google brought nothing to the Table. rolleyes.gif

Well, sure I didn't mean they didn't write code. But writing widgets is hardly an innovation, it's implementing already existing idea. Multiple workspaces is X11 feature, which is different only slightly from android's (different in implementation though). Notification pulldown is a new thing, but it's an incremental improvement.

Voice commands - this feature works quite poorly for me; could be very useful though. I still think it's half-solved problem. First guy who solves it really well is going to reap the benefits. My point here is that there are other hard problems, solved by others which Google relied on in making android. They used the solutions (linux kernel, java, ui design ideas, etc), but didn't introduce outstanding innovations.

Their real innovations, were what made them Google, - search (x10), google maps, gmail.

WP7 > Android > iOS

I always love seeing things like this. It's always so meaningless. "The device I like > Device I like less > Device I like even less than the second one"

You don't say...
