[Kotaku] Comparing The Witcher 2 on PC and Xbox 360 - Page 16

Most gamers can't afford to drop $2k+ on a pc, it's much easier to buy a $300-400 console that still looks pretty good in the end. There are also alot of people that prefer a gamepad over mouse/kb, and there are still some big ticket games that are on both pc/console that don't support gamepad (officially at least) on the pc (Bioshock 2, ME3 to name two)
Who really cares that witcher 2 was ported over, and that the comparison review was flawed. Yes I would have liked to see the console vs the pc with everything maxed and the uber turned on, but oh well. As a gamer I'm happy to see a good company make a great game available to as many people as possible. CDPR gave all the additional features of the console version to pc owners for free, and gave them a backup digital copy. That's unheard of in this day and age.
Anyhoo, that's my rant
You're right in that most can't afford to drop $2k on a PC, but you can still pick up a $600 PC which can play most games well enough at 1680x1050 or 1920x1080, and it's upgradable so you can improve upon it later on.

Oh and DRM free backup digital copy thumb.gif CDPR rocks thumb.gif

No but understand truly why the PC guys are getting worried.

Crysis 1. Beautiful. Wide open environments. Water swaying like real life. The game was like visiting an island to look at the scenery. PC (eventually ported to 360 and PS3)
Crysis 2. Boring. Claustrophobic enclosed environments. Water in DX11 swaying like real life...under the entire map while being tesselated for no reason. The game was like watching a 3 year old play with legos. 360 as lead platform, PS3, PC.

If they do that with Diablo 3, you can expect very unsatisfied PC gamers. That's why they are worried.

I just thought of something. If Bethseda can make wide open PC like environments in Fallout 3, New Vegas, Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim work on 360/PS3 and then just add more graphics to the PC side (and allowing ambient occlusion through NVCP or the ATI/AMD equivalent) [ala skyrim hi-rez texture pack or community mods] then why don't the other developers do so as well?

Ok. From here on forth, its not console's fault, its the developers fault for making the game poor on consoles then porting it to pc.

There is no reason to blame consoles only the developers.

They just want people to think the 360 version is graphically far superior when it isn't and never will be.
I think the 720p resolution comparison was justified, though it should have been comparing high/ultra to the Xbox 360 version. Not everyone can run maxed out at 1920x1080+ but I'm fairly certain my 5770 (Which is still the norm dedicated (dx11?) amongst PC gamers according to Steam) did wonders back at 1680/1440x1050 and could handle 720p with some lovely AA to make up for the small resolution.

It's a good point about not everyone being able to max it out at 1920x1080, but for a graphics comparison it should have been maxed out at 1920x1080.

Console gamers: Probably be a lame game trying to be to adult. Not simple enough to follow.
Dark Souls come to PC:
PC Gamers: Alright, we get a chance to enjoy this awesome game! 60FPS! 1080p! Proper internet play and some new content, wonderful. Hopefully it'll be a good port so we can support the company and see more from them in the future.
Console gamers: Eh? From Software betrays us, why do stupid PC Gamers get it? They'll just whine and moan and they can't appreciate the game for what it is, they'll mod and hack it and everyone will be a cheater and it'll ruin the series. They get new content? From Software betrayed us again! Where is our new content? We should get it first, and FOR FREE! PC Gamers are whiners who cried to get their way. From Software is wasting their time and money on PC, they should be developing the next Souls game / Kings Quest instead. PC Gamers will just pirate it anyways.
See the attitude difference?

I rarely see that type of attitude. What I'm generally seeing on this forum is PC gamers complaining that the PC versions of multiplayer games are of console quality (some of which are valid, some complaints make little sense from a business standpoint).

At this point you're postulating a hypothetical situation, do you have proof of console gamers whining about the release of Dark Souls for PC? And furthermore, do you have proof that PC gamers aren't whining about the same thing?

I should point out that in the OCN news section alone I have yet to hear a console gamer complain about Dark Souls being made for PC, but I have heard complaints from PC gamers. So I can verify that it is happening contrary to what you have stipulated in your comment. Maybe I've missed the thread with the complaints from console gamers.

Check the Dark Souls Facebook page where it's been the comments of, Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
'PC-gamers don't deserve this title.'
'I'm not supporting From Software and their terribly launched games anymore!'
'Im not holding my breath for the DLC they made it clear there are no plans for DLC so giving the pc beggars what they wanted is pretty much FROMS way of saying " [screw] you loyal fans that made demon souls and dark souls what they are to day, but we are sell outs"....that's pretty much it.'
'[screw] that jumping gun bull[crap]. My Dark Souls copy was gone long ago. The moment it went to pc I knew it went to crap oh well have fun with that.'

Back on-topic; console gamers do seem to be tossed on the Witcher 2. There's people who are praising it and really enjoy its 'difficulty' and UI, while others are simply saying it's a poorly done game where everything seems delayed and cumbersome.

To each their own I guess. I'm willing to bet there are always complaints on both sides of the isle for almost any multiplatform game release. Can't everyone get along and just play the games? tongue.gif
