Alrighty, so,

I currently have an i5 2500K; it will do 4.5GHz at 1.38v.

I was planning on going Ivy the moment I could, but now I'm not too sure, I know that it will perform about the same at the same clocks so the only way to justify it is if I can get up to around 5GHz or if I get the 3770K for the hyperthreading.

What do you guys think I should do? Given that Ivy performs around the same and assuming that I would be able to get a slightly higher overclock.

Also, I would sell the 2500K to make back a little bit of the price of Ivy.

same here... i think imma skip IVY and just stay w/ my current SANDY for now till HASWELL arrives...

for me, IVY is not worth the upgrade if your already on SANDY... biggrin.gif
post #4 of 11
no way. Do not upgrade if your already on a sandy . I NEED to upgrade i'am selling my S*** amd phenom II 1100t to get the 3770k ivy bridge OR get the 2600k when ebay gets flooded after IB comes out. I'm pretty sure i can get the 2600k for 250$ on ebay

Thanks for the input guys. I'm leaning towards keeping the 2500K and maybe pushing for a little more out of it. redface.gif I'm not really sure I could justify the 3770K TBH since I only occasionally encode anything and I never do much HD. The 3570K looks nice though.... rolleyes.gif

I agree with the rest. If you already have a 2500k, there is really no point in upgrading.

I use a Q6600 which is a great CPU and I think I could still use it for another 1/2 years but since I want to get a GTX 680, I need a better CPU. Ivy is not far away, hence why I am waiting, otherwise I would have gone for Sandy instead.

Thanks to everyone who posted! It is overwhelmingly looking like Sandy is the way to go. Maybe I could get a better 2500/2600K for cheap when others go Ivy, I'd love to get one that can do better with the volts. Otherwise I might push this as far as I can and hope for degradation and an excuse to go Ivy! tongue.gif
