It doesn't really say on this link, but the way I am reading it, I'm getting that I don't need the 3rd card. Just the drivers, PhysX SS, and the patch. That really doesn't seem right, but that's how I am reading the link.

you need a nvidia card to enable physx, period.

Wow, you guys really respond fast...lol. Is there not an option to edit a post? Sorry if this is double posted. I have read that anything over a 250gts is pretty much worthless as far as PhysX itself goes. Is this true?

Yes you would need a 3rd card. That 3rd card would need to be an Nvidia card that supports/does physics.

You would then put it in your third PCI-E slot.

This is mostly true. Some games like Mafia II where the PhysX is superbly done will require something like a GTX260 or 285 to truly max out the PhysX setting without sacrificing performance, but a GTS250 is already plenty for most PhysX intensive games.

That is to say, a GTS250 dedicated to PhysX only is quite sufficient unless you want the ultimate, which would require bumping up to a GTX260, 285, or 460. thumb.gif

Just to apologize for the confusion, the reason i said to fill your 3rd slot is cause i assumed you wanted your crossfire ( i know i would) and have PhysX.

But regarding your last question, what do you mean worthless?

edit - nevermind, just saw the post above me.

Yeah, I figured that out shortly after I posted, but got on to reading further in the link posts and forgot all about editing that one...tongue.gif.

Yes I definitely want to keep the Crossfire. Nice, you guys have been extremely helpful so far. So I am off to pipedream about affording a third gpu. Given GanjaSMK's response, I may look into a GTX285 or so. On the other hand, I have found a Asus gtx460 for under 100$. Thanks for all the help guys! Much appreciated!

Anything higher than a GTX 275 or it's equivalent is negligible to no gains. GTS 250/450 would suit your needs fine. Also bare in mind only a handful of games even support physx.
