Monitor search troubles

Thread Starter
I'm moving back to a desktop from a laptop, and I can't seem to find a monitor that I can tolerate. The Asus VH236H that I purchased is, to my eyes, truly terrible. Even disregarding the fact that it has a bright pixel and dust inside the screen, the image it produces is very poor. The graininess and window screen-like effect are the two characteristics that irritate me the most. I'm looking for some suggestions for a monitor that exhibits less of these two effects.

Look for an IPS panel rather than TB. HP and Dell make some of the better ones.
