Should I get a AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz?

Should I get this processor over an eight-core AMD? Will it be noticeably faster than my core i5 750? I have Corsair H100, so I should be able to hit the 4GHz mark easy if I bought it and overclocked it.

You will see zero difference between the two, probably even get less performance with the 965.

Check out http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/102?vs=109

If you are planning on upgrading get a 2500k or a 2600k, they both are actual upgrades to an i5-750.

An FX CPU will OC and scale higher than the 965 if max performance vs. value is what you desire. The 965 is an excellent performance/value proposition however.

There is lots of real world performance data in the link below on the FX CPUs.

The FX will most likely be better. But the best upgrade would be to get the i5 2500k.

Clock for clock, the 965 is faster than the all of the 8 core FX cpu's, but your 750 is faster than both of them.  If I were you, I would wait until April 29th and buy an Ivy Bridge CPU.

rolleyes.gif He said clock for clock, which is true. The FX will beat it in multi-threaded apps though.

Keep what you have or move to SB/IB. Unfortunately for all us enthusiasts, that's the only path worth the money you'd spend.

When clocked similarly, the 750 smokes the FX in all single threaded apps, and it even beats it in most multi-threaded apps too, even though it has four less cores.
