Looking for a new AM3 Chip for BF3.

Hello!

I'm currently playing Battlefield 3 pretty heavily since December, and I'm seeing that my CPU is beginning to lack in the processing nature of the game. I'm beginning to see lower frames per second after the patches and updates, and I'm just fed up with the fact that It's not optimized for lower-end users.
So, with that being said, I'm looking for a new Socket AM3 processor that I can just swap with my Athlon II X2 270 that I currently have. I'm mainly looking for a Quad-core that's not expensive, is suited for gaming, and one that doesn't exactly come with a heatsink (I can just re-use my currently HSF, and it saves me money).
From what I've read, AMD Athlon II's aren't exactly suited for hard-core gaming. My fault, because I built this system to replace my old Quad-system that went to the grave - So, with that being said, Athlon II's are more than likely out of the question, unless many say that one certain processor is great.
I had an AMD Phenom II X2 550 BE @ X4 B50, @ 3.8Ghz, and it performed well under BF:BC2 @ Max settings, before it died.

So, with everything here, recommend me a good processor that's somewhere under 120$, Socket AM3 Compatible, 95W's or under, and one's that known for gaming needs.

^ thats a steal but it has a 125W TDP and judging by your board, it wont bode well with the MOSFET/VRM setup...

Thanks guys, but I don't have the money to afford a new motherboard, or a Hex-core processor.

- What do you guys thing about the Phenom II X4 970?
- Or the AMD Athlon II X4 645 Propus?
Id just grab the Phenom II x4 955 + or if your set on the 970 then go for it!

If it's in your budget, definitely consider the 960T Zosma: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103995
If you're lucky you can unlock to 6 cores (I believe some are rebadged 1090t's)! Plus it has pretty good room for OC as well.

Before jumping to Intel (after BD was a flop) I had a PII X4 955 BE, definitely a solid processor as well. I wouldn't pay extra for the 970, etc., just because they're OC'd and you could do it yourself as long as you have a non-stock cooler.

Check out the OCN marketplace, you can usually get used AM3 processors around here for a fairly reasonable price!

As far as i know, all Zosma's are rebranded Thuban's all with 6 cores, however sometimes the 2 locked cores are defective.

- Thanks for the good pair of eyes!
Unfortunately, my motherboard will not overclock via BIOS. Fears of building a PC on a 270$ budget was REALLY hard, especially with a GPU included, so no OC'ing.

With that mobo, I would grab an Athlon II 460,or grab a 95w 960T and keep it stock.
