First Time Water Cooling - Corsair Obsidian 800D

Thread Starter
Hey I have never water cooled a pc before, however I am keen to do so.

I am building a new gaming rig, using the corsair 800D so water cooling would be perfect for the case.

CASE: Corsair Obsidian 800D
CPU: i7 2600k
GPU: GTX 580 SLI
MOTHERBOARD: Asus Sabertooth P67
PSU: Thermaltake ToughPower 1500w Modular
SSD: 240GB Intel 520
HDD: 600GB VelociRaptor
RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance

I intend to overlock both the CPU and GPUs, so water cooling will be absolutely necessary. However I am not sure of how to water cool a pc, and what components are needed.

Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. smile.gif

Just getting into water cooling myself, you should definitely check out the stickies.
I just started watching videos of poeple putting their WC together. This one eased my mind a lot.

I recommend starting off with a kit, such as this one. Then all you would need to add is possibly another radiator, some more fittings, some better tubing, and 2 GTX 580 waterblocks such as this one.

Typically, 120mm of radiator space per component + 120mm extra is adequate cooling. As such, you would only need a 360mm from a kit + a 120mm of your choice.

Note: It's a good idea to double check compatibility of the GPU waterblock with your specific GPU brand.

you should go with a big triple radiator at the top of your case something that can really dissipate of hit like a GTX360 or if you wana go with something more silence a RX360 or so.

for a CPU block if you want best performance EK supreme block will be your choice but if you wana go with something a little more budget wise I would go with a RASA block it is allot cheaper then the EK one and it should provide you with 1c difference from the EK block and it also very low water restrictive (even better then the EK one).

for the GPU's if you intend to go full cover 580 I wouldnt go with anything except EK, any of their blocks will be great.

you will need anther 240MM rad mounted anywhere in the bottom of your case and if you wana go for even better performance cause lets dont forget we are talking about 2 580's here which at very very hot anther 120mm mounted on the rear of the case.

you should get a strong pump I am using a 35x pump and its great you can go with it.

except that I recommend you to start doing a research spend time in the sticky threads their are allot of guides their I wouldn't order anything before I fully understand how water cooling works before I watch some vids n youtube to visually get a hang of it. except that if you got a good technical sense you should be fine its not as hard as it looks thumb.gif

if you get this you will just need to get another rad and put that and the bottom and then 6 more compression fittings

i would suggest getting a custom window made with some 120 or 140mm fans for better airflow

Would I need to get an extra 240 rad? And when you say 6 extra fitting do you mean additional to the 6 that come with the Raystorm? Do I need a reservoir?

Thanks mate

I really like that raystorm system however I cant find it anywhere on australian pc parts websites, so is there another system of the same type that is a more common brand?

Thanks smile.gif
