System locks up, is the 680 to blame?

Ive been having some motherboard issues and Asus sent me yet another P8P67 Pro and i happened to snag a Evga 680 the same day! So swapped eventhing out and did a complete reformat of windows and hard drives and reinstalled all the drivers.

However, my system randomly locks up and thats never happened before. What i mean by locks up is it freezes on whatever its doing, like if i am opening a folder or something. The mouse can still move and click on things but they dont respond. It stays like that for a minute then my monitor goes black for 30seconds or so meanwhile i can still see my mouse and move it.. then if i alt tab it works and when i exit its all back to normal.. i dont know what to make of it..

Right now i am on default settings (no oc). I dont know if its the video drivers with the black screen or motherboard or just a plan bad windows install. Any advice is appreciated

I would suggest re-installing Windows, and see if that fixes it. Then try switching out the 680 with a different gpu, and see if the same problems persist. If they do, it's the motherboard most likely.

Yea.. I would just hate to go thru the trouble of reformating and optimizing my ssd again.. took awhile..

I just updated the 680 drivers to the 301 version.. CD was 300.88 or something.. waiting to see if I have anymore problem.. I just hope its not ANOTHER mobo problem.. Asus sent me a board with 4 defectiev sata ports last time..

Thanks for the advice
