Again, EVE beats WoW hands down. You know what they say; when an EVE player leaves the game to play WoW, both communities average IQ goes up. I wish I had the time to still play that game, as it's the most in depth game I have ever laid my hands on.
OT: I cancelled my sub a week ago, I won't be coming back to that rubbish.

so much this...

I cancelled SWTOR 21 days after buying it.. waste of 60 dollars. I bet EA and Bioware are going to use these trial accounts to inflate their sub numbers again.. But since they're doing this we wont know until august or september how bad it really is. But I assure you from everyone I've talked to its pretty bad.

this is some nice (wild and unfounded as well) speculation on your part. also, almost every single quote from bioware ended up being a straight out lie. like they were talking about a totally different game lol. everything seen of GW2 so far has been right in line with what ArenaNet has stated, not what people imagine or want it to be. from the first gameplay vid of SWTOR it was apparent that something got lost in translation. that's the game that didn't deliver what the developers promised or what the fans wanted. we'll see how GW2 fairs, but it would take a whole lot of goofing to put it in line with what SWTOR ended up being.
I spent over a year in the TOR beta. Most of what they said was true when they said it, it just wasn't true what that statement could be taken to imply. Whether it was EA or Bioware or LucasArts, we'll never know, but someone in that chain turned on the PR machine way too early. Pound for pound, it's a superior game to WoW. That's what they aimed for, that's what they hit.

As for my statement that GW2 will fare the same as SWTOR, read that in the context that SWTOR is a huge success (personal opinions aside, it is) that some are saying has crashed and burned (see: Tortanic). The exact same situation will happen to GW2.

I've played GW2 as well. I just know that 2 months before launch, TOR was a notably better game than it was at launch. The game won't live up to the hype, because by the very nature of hype, people are expecting/seeing things that they want, but haven't been given any logical reason to expect.

I wish they would give me a free week to try out the newest patch. I have a 50 and a 40 and would like to see if the game is suck-ass-less now. rolleyes.gif

they delivered both tbh. what I needed from games was entertainment and yea I got it.

tbh, your second sentence is confusing. also, it was a copy of wow and a functionally inferior one at that. bioware's goal at a certain point became to emulate wow and that's what they did.

“It is a touchstone. It has established standards, it’s established how you play an MMO. Every MMO that comes out, I play and look at it. And if they break any of the WoW rules, in my book that’s pretty dumb”

even WoW was more different from EQ and other MMO games when it launched. it did several things different and better. it built on what was already out, not carbon copy everything with less features to boot.

you gave some rather specific examples of how GW2 would be the same or worse in a couple ways with no possible way of proving this. it also didn't make much sense.

I've addressed this claim already. the tons and tons of GW2 footage and coverage show a game that is exactly what the developers of the game are saying it will be. people are seeing what the game is, not what they want to see. some people don't like it and some do. it just so happens that what Anet told us GW2 is and what they have show lines up perfectly. it seems as if you are saying that people are seeing a delusion created by there own mind when looking at GW2 footage and it will be a massive let down upon release. sadly this has generally been the case with SWTOR (looks nothing like WoW, play nothing like WoW, looks amazing!! etc.) even a completely impartial person can't come up with that stuff. and SWTOR was much better in beta yes. my brother was in beta all year. the game is still a commercial success and not a flop at all though. GW2 isn't even in open beta and is hitting closer to the mark set by it's creators and the expectations of fans alike than SWTOR ever did or likely ever will. but enough. this is not a GW2 thread and I don't like getting into these types of discussions anyway.

But seriously TOR could be completely free and I probably wouldn't play. How many hundred million dollars did they waste? It still plays worse than WOW in 2004, broken pvp (lol stunstunstunstunstunstunstunstunstun dead), choices don't even matter it just makes getting quests take forever, which are still about as generic as it gets, character creation is the worst I've seen in a game this decade (blue human, red human, human, robot human), crazy faction imbalance, almost all the servers are dead, Ilum handed the best PVP gear to everyone on the stacked faction, raids are terrible, and the game in unplayable with not even that many people on the screen. When the casuals finish the stories and the hardcores finish the raids, this game is going to be deader than dead. Why are people playing this again?

I disagree. 5> 6 >= 3 > 2 = 4 > 1. I enjoy rewatching RotS/Clone Wars more than I do rewatching A New Hope. Yes, Phantom Menace isn't up to par with the rest of the series. Thing is, for there to be a "par" there's only one way you find out if you don't meet it.

About 1.5 hundred million. And they've already made it back, so they didn't waste any unless you go into opportunity costs, which is pseudoscience anyways (at least in this conversation).

As for the game being unplayable... with your sigrig something is wrong on your end. With mine, I never drop below 30FPS @ maxxed 1080p, even during the cluster**** that was the days following 1.1. As for why people are playing it, WoW is an anomaly in that the main reason people play is the game itself. Every other MMO out there runs on community as their biggest asset. SWTOR does have servers where the community isn't dead and is the best part of the game. The game is good enough to hold a community good enough to hold itself together long enough for the game to pull itself together.

I liked this game, I really wanted to continue playing this. The first post release patch that gave the 4-man rakghoul stuff was amazing. I loved every minute of that. Unfortunately after once, you play pvp over and over and over and over again. The raids are buggy as hell, don't know if they fixed that, and the ice world pvp area (can't remember what it is) sounds awesome in principle but is so big, theres no meaningful battles.
