Thanks for the replies everyone. I installed Fedora on a machine I threw together a few days ago but I haven't had time to play around with it. I was considering Arch before and now I think I will go that route.

What about APUs like the A6-3500 I will be using?

If you're building a HTPC (as in a proper HTPC - not just a laptop which will double as a media centre) then I'd just go with XBMCbuntu - it's real easy to install and gives you everything you need for a Linux HTPC right out of the box. The draw back is you don't actually learn any Linux, however I personally don't see the point in pratting about for a day just to watch some videos or listen to music.

If you are building a personal computer that will double as a media centre and want to learn some stuff on the way, then Arch can be a great project.

It really depends on just how "hands on" you want to get smile.gif
