Can I setup RAID1 without formatting? - Page 2

No problem, let me know if you need any help with Cobian, it can be a little bit tricky depending on what you're trying to do with it. I'll get on finding out a cost for a HDD today as well.

The WD Caviar Blue 1TB would be $93 +shipping.

I have a WD caviar blue 1TB hard drive. I have tons and tons of files that I really cannot afford to loose. So I want to setup a RAID1 configuration to ensure that if one goes bad, then I'll have everything on the other one.

Also, would I be better off doing RAID1, or just backing up my info on another drive? I personally feel that doing RAID1 would be more reliable.
Any answers will be well-appreciated.
Thanks.

RAID1 is NOT what you are looking for. RAID1 is for redundancy.... If a HDD fails, you can continue to work.

You are looking for a backup or archiving solution. RAID1 is not more reliable because HDD failure is not the only way to lose data.... fire, theft, PSU damage, malware, ID10T, etc problems can wipe data on an array.

Go with periodic incremental backups.
