2D/3D clock issues (EVGA GTX 460 1gb). whats the cause?

Thread Starter
I have recently been playing around with overclocking my EVGA gtx 460 1gb using the Precision X tool. It's my first time overclocking a GPU, so that probably didn't help. The issue is, Sometimes my graphics drivers will crash, and then when I edit the clock/volt, my system refuses to use the 3D clock settings, only using the 405Mhz core clock and 1800Mhz memory. I would be fine with this if i knew how on earth to reset this so i can go back to finding my a nice clock/voltage.
Thanks in advance.

I only know of the way I got around it. I downloaded asus GPU tweak instead and turned off the 2d clocks.

setting power management mode to "prefer max performance" in the NVIDIA control panel did not help me either

Typically, you'll have to restart your machine after driver crashes in order to get the drivers working right again. It isn't always required, but it's pretty common that it does.

This is likely a sign that your OC is unstable, btw wink.gif

What're your oc'ed clocks? Are you running a stress test like Furmark or OC Scanner? Have you upped the voltage at all?

If you restart your system it should release the clock back to normal. It happens when your o.c. too high and the card locks to prevent damage.

You sure that voltage is correct? That's massive for a 460, especially for those clocks.

If it is correct, my guess is that's the culprit in your downclocking.

Make sure you have absoluely the latest drivers. There are some issues with Firefox causing driver lockups because of its 3D acceleration rendering of webpages.
