HD 6950 shader unlock question.

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I've been contemplating on whether to unlock the shaders on my 6950 or not, for a very long time. What happens if the shaders doesn't unlock? I've never done anything along the lines of messing with a GPU's card and I can't afford another one so, if it fails are there any options to switch it back? My card does not have a dual BIOS nor a switch, it's also the 1GB Version. Is it even worth unlocking the shaders? Thank you.

It's not worth the risk. Theres minimal increase in performance. I was fortunate enough to get 2 unlocked 6950's but I'm now looking to get rid of them and get a 7970

So, if I read correctly on some sites, that if people failed to unlock, nothing really happens?

depends.
if you have a card with a dual bios switch like the Sapphire 6950 Dirt 3 edition then nothing happens. if you flash a card without a switch you could brick it.
if you have the dual bios switch then go for it, its much safer and worth a shot. if it fails all you do is flip the switch back to the healthy bios.

do you have the switch?

then don't do it.

what you can do if you have a credit card with a high limit is buy used cards from amazon, and if it doesn't unlock send them back. but they have to be from Amazon Warehouse Deals. there is a 30-day no-questions-asked policy.

i have bought 4 of these cards for myself and friends, and they all unlocked.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0055Y66A4/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&coliid=I3R3FFPXPS39NR&me=&seller=&colid=2WTQF1QAHCTFU

monitor the site every couple days in hopes that amazon posts a deal from their warehouse.

No dual BIOS? Don't risk bricking your card. Most reference and early 6950 did unlock.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-6950-1gb-benchmark,3041-2.html It's this card. The only reason I'm wanting to do this is because, I'm looking for more performance.
