GTX 680 EK waterblock with EVGA backplate troubles - Page 4

Good job OP on your mod....
Looks nice nonetheless!!!!
*now I am at my pc... I can type properly.
As said above.. look at the manual it should show you the sizes/part numbers for the particular screw your looking for...now it's just a matter of finding the right length and/or cutting the screw down to size...
The usual screws EK uses are M3xX, X is the length of the screw....If you can find a hobby shop around you... something like Hobbytown or what ever you can find about a million "M3" screws in various sizes even in hex patern*this is what I was gonna go for*.. they have some with small enough screw head sizes so it'll fit flush with the screws holes on the back plate....

Good luck and Have fun!!!!

I managed to get my EVGA backplate on with a bit of dremel help.

I used 4 slightly longer screws for the 4 around the chip area as it has room for slightly larger heads, for the other points on the EK block I screwed them in normally with the EK screws provided through the pcb. Then where those screws should go through the backplate I just removed the standoff points on the evga backplate so it sat flush over the screws in the PCB.

hey thanks for the tip! just a question, since you cut off some of the standoff points on the evga plate, doesn't that like make the card bend a bit over the pcb?

Hi,

I'm thinking of getting some EK waterblocks but I'm undecided between EK and EVGA backplates, did you need to buy anything to get the backplate to stay on or could it stay on with only 4 screws aroudnt eh GPU?

Thanks

no i didn't buy anything extra, i just decided to use the 4 screws around the gpu. everything else sits flush and haven't noticed any problems with the vrms. i can get my 680's to clock in at between 1250-1340mhz with no issues. run heaven multiple times with no heat issues. card doesn't get above 45*c under load.
