Buy a z77 mobo+i3 2100 and wait for ivy or buy an i7-3820 + x79

About 3 days ago I sold my AMD build to my mate, so now Im looking for a replacement.

I can buy an i7-3820+MSI x79a-gd45 for $524 or I can buy an ASrock Z77 extreme4 now ($169) and wait for ivy...

EDIT:

IB: Lucid Virtu MVP
Probably better OC
More memory bandwidth
22nm
low power consumption
Higher IPC
Newer chipset
cheaper

SB-E: Longer lifespan (IVB-E)
More PCI-e lanes

well.. you not alone biggrin.gif sold my SB rig about 4 days ago and waiting for IB,both platforms are pretty epic and you will enjoy both ,if you into overclocking and pushing to the limit i think IB will give you more enjoyment/higher clocks no doubt and as for " SB-E: Longer lifespan" ..think about it by the time IB-E will show up there will be Haswell (both due in 2013) and DDR4 which will require new platform ( 2014) wink.gif => Intel will find a way for you to spend more $, the days of 1366 are over

To take truly advantage of X79, you either

* Do 3 way CF/SLI (or maybe 3 x8 RAID card?)
* Make use of quad channel memory
* Need RAM more than 16 GB

Otherwise you save more money with Z77.

Z77 can do 3/4 way SLI/CF just as well ,i still consider X79 as WS platform ..i7 3820 made it more mainstream tho

Ahh alright thanks.

Nah I basically just need it for gaming, I was just thinking I could go with SB-E for future proof, but as someone else said by the time IVBE is out Haswell will be too.

Yes, but at x8/x4/x4 (excluding Z77 WS, but it make use of NF200 instead). x4 will hold GPUs back.

I'll be doing max xfire. x8 x8 with PCI-e 3.0 is enough for that.

G1 Sniper 3 will do PCI-E 3.0 SLI x16x16 and 4way SLI x8x8x8x8 and no NF200 but PLX PEX 8747 (new less latency) thumb.gif
