Greatest Pokemon game ever?

Thread Starter
Hey guys - so my buddy at work started up a game of pokemon and it brought back some serious nostalgia and I really want to give it a go. I've only played blue/red/yellow and gold/silver. Can you guys recommend one of the newer versions that'll keep me busy?

Honestly, they're all good. I'd rank them gen 1&2>>Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald>>Black/White>>Plat/pearl.
I'd recommend Ruby or Sapphire but that's just my preference.
Gold and Silver were awesome though. thumb.gif

Avoid Diamond and Pearl and play Platinum instead. Diamond and Pearl's battle system is SLOWWW and you'll be running back to playing the GBA games. Black and White are pretty good in my book.

Blue/Red are by far the best.

For me it's a very hard pick between Red/Blue and Gold/Silver. In my eyes none of the other versions could end up above these 2, although some did come close. In the end I think I'll go with Gold, must've spend over a 1000h's on that, don't know if I would've done that on my Blue.

My personal favorite is Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald. It just seems like that's just where a Pokemon game should be.

The graphics are nice and colorful while still looking like a pokemon game, the music is the same. The variety of pokemon is nice with some simply inspired and some completely off the wall designs. The world feels more dynamic with areas where it rains sometimes and places where the ground is covered in volcanic ash.

Basically, it's in a sweet spot for me, it still feels kinda like an updated version of the older games while not being so different like some of the newer games.
