NEW CPU!!! Fix it fix it lol I ran a server for awhile and MC just seems (IMO) poorly optimized be it from java or whatever it managed to bog down and eat all my machines ram (not an easy feat) during some super massive TNT tests so I would not be surprised if it was CPU related.

We have a lot of cores, but the problem with Minecraft is that it doesn't like cores (usually only uses one at most) Minecraft likes overall speed. So for the server we would be better off with a 4 core at 4.6Ghz than an 8 core at 2.83Ghz

Small suggestion just in case it was overlooked since we are all only human (except for zodac), but was the server setup to use more than one core in the server config file? Also would turning off Hyper-threading help Minecraft at all?

Also, the server is running Dual-Xeon's right as per the Creative Server's OP?

Hmmm... a single threaded performance could explain it. I know certain plugins, Bukkit for example trys to run it's processes spread out on separate threads, but still it is not truely multi-threaded. Maybe there is a mod/plugin that supports multi-threaded chunk generation? Just shooting out ideas here. Not sure if it is even feasible.

Also, the server is running Dual-Xeon's right as per the Creative Server's OP?

MC is incapable of using more then one core for 90% of things. There is no multi-thread option in the MC server configs.

HT would be useless for the same reasons, this isn't a moar-coars thing. Plus the cpus don't actually have HT. However, if we did get a blazing fast quad with HT, the server's "second core" (see below) could be best assigned to that cores associated HT.

It is running on the same server as creative. Each MC server currently has 2 cores affinitied to it, with the remaining 4 doing other things.

Each server is given two cores, although minecraft can only use one we give them each two just in case the plugins can utilize more than one.
