Also if FD is causing you a problem stop using xray or exploits to mine when you shouldn't be able to see...

As for a reset, I'm not sure what I think about that as I see all the work thats gone into the server.

Turning up the brightness in game is an exploit?

Some people might just be mining randomly in the dark. Sometimes on other servers I would just dig out a certain sized area and count in my head, then I would light it up when I finished. I can see how being forced to place a torch would be a pain.

Anyway, brightness is a game feature not an exploit.

Also, when players mine in the dark they are aware of the risks. If a mob spawns and kills them or they fall down a hole that's their fault. Forcing them to place a torch is like babysitting.

What is FD and what exactly does it do/prohibit? I haven't been on enough to even know what it does.

It spams chat with stuff people mine, and it doesn't let you mine ore in the dark.

That's incredibly obnoxious. Why not just install Orbfuscator or something? That way you *know* people won't be able to x-ray... without spamming or infringing on a player's right to mine without a freaking torch.

It doesn't really do anything other then log and announce when a player mines something, coal/iron/ect. It's a problem at the moment because it spams everyone on the entire server every time someone does any mining what so ever, you have 4+ people mining at the same time and it's gg chatbox filled with crap no one but admins care about.

We are using FD at the moment because of the current hardware we have, once we have our new hardware we will able to run Obfuscatory no problem.

That first portion of your post was a complication with LWC (our block protection plugin). I thought I explained it to you while I was looking at it but I've since been able to recover most protections. I'm working closely with one of the contributing developers of LWC to recover the rest of the protections. Long story short wherever there was a protection lost no protection can be placed. We'll keep you guys posted on our progress as we make it.

[FD] stands for Found Diamonds and broadcasts over public chat to inform both our players and our staff. We've chosen to use this plugin as a deterrent to both mod and texture pack xray users. We've already seen great results thanks to this plugin as we've banned a number of confirmed xray users thanks to its logging. A bonus of displaying the results publicly is that players take stock in the server and contact the staff of suspect behavior. As I mentioned we've already banned players due to FD both in tipping us and the players off who contact us. Soon FD will only notify players in public chat of gold and diamond ores to cut back on the notifications. In the future after our massive hardware upgrades we'll be installing the Orebfuscator to stop both xray users and texture pack abusers.


Think of it as added realism, like the plugin says "mining in the dark is dangerous" I personally think of it as an added bonus and a final nail in the coffin against xray abusers. One of the very few remaining bonuses they would otherwise have on our server is effectively nullified. Moving forward we will continue to tweak the required light level but think of it as our way of looking out for you by keeping creepers from creeping.


McMMO will receive be balanced. We want to encourage players to continue playing and give them added benefits for their time served but we also want to minimize any negative effect on others play. The majority of the current staff have wanted to go over both McMMO and Factions with a fine toothed comb. I'm happy to say that we're finally getting very close to that day.


Economy will play a very large roll in the re-launch of the survival server. We've been developing a new style of play utilizing custom plugins to provide a fulfilling well rounded Factions survival PvP experience. ZMOD is a dead man walking and LWC will change in a exciting new way. Both everything and everyone will be safe to an extent.. Players will be encouraged to join factions while still be able to put down roots on the server and express their abilities all within a Factions survival PvP environment. I don't mean to lead anyone on but we'll get into more details publicly as they develop. See above but if I had to define its role on our server I'd say it's both a deterrent to cheaters and a tool to help us catch them.


The Orebfuscator plugin is very effective but horribly resource intensive, our current hardware just cannot handle it. That being said, our proposed hardware upgrades are EPIC and stands to be a symbol of Overclock.net, how they do gaming, and how much their community members mean to them.

I can see how forcing players to place torches in the dark could be useful in deterring xray users, however, I think it might be "too much." Yes, it deters xray users because they can't just mine straight to the diamonds, but it can also turn off honest players who either don't have a torch to place or don't want to be distracted by it. Having to place a torch down can interrupt someone trying to count blocks or waste precious time when using Super Breaker.

In the end, I think it does as much harm as it does good and can be removed without really being missed. The mining log / Orebfuscator should be enough on it's own.
