the 7950 should be no problem at 429 euro if I can find a buyer for both of my 5850's at 100€

Its backwards compatible. You are completely fine. You will not miss out on any performance maybe 1-2% at most

The pci-e 3.0 won't be a problem at all

560 U.S. for a 7950 is high, I paid like almost 600 dollars for mine.

No, we don't even use the full capablities for 2.0 yet, #.0 is just marketing ploy.

7850 would be a lil slower, and take less power, 7950 can be oc'd close to a 7970.

Both card will last a while a while, the 7950 longer, and both will cf nicely in the future.

the 429Euro is the cheapest I can find from Finland, including shipping - so thats 550$ without shipping. Guess I have to take that one. Yeah its going to be 7950. Just need to sell my 5850's now. Thank you all.

Started to have some doubts about this... if its worth it

Can someone who owns a 7950 or 7970 run BF3 on high settings 1920x1080 resolution and tell me what kinda FPS you are getting? I've been looking at this performance chart
http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2012-vga-gpgpu/13-Battlefield-3-DirectX-11-B-Performance,2968.html

I'm getting 70 to 90 FPS on my 5850 crossfired on high 1920x1080. looking at that chart 7970 average fps 84.61
Does the 7950 actually match a 5850 crossfire setup in performance?

on 2560x1600 ultra I get average 10 FPS. looking at this chart of Extreme http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2012-vga-gpgpu/13-Battlefield-3-DirectX-11-C-Extreme,2969.html
2560x1440, quality ultra FOV 90 - I see 7950 getting 30Fps.

I wonder is it really that much of a upgrade and is it worth it in the end. If someone has a 2560x1600 res display with 79xx series card, post me your fps on high settings
Note that the native res of my 30" monitor is 2560x1600 which is the reason for the upgrade, if I was running a 1920x1080 display I wouldn't really need to upgrade at all.

hiho.. the thing is.. if you want even more power (580SLI/680SLI/7950CF/7970CF).. i´d say you need to change your CPU too.. any GPU of that power you want will be bnecked by yo CPU.

582

582

540

and here

425

i´d say the maximum for you ( your CPU ) would be something between a 580 / 7950 and 7970 / 680.. depending on how much money you wanna spend..
everything faster would need more CPU usage..

Yeah it should on 1920x1080. its a different story when the resolution is taken up to 2560x1600. well, 50fps on that seems good enought for me. I'll probably get it in a few weeks.
