tried the card in the second crossfire slot. with both bioses .. switched the 6 pins around over and about.. still no luck.. switched the bios to default.. still no doubt.. crackling sound was actually due to wire hitting on of the fans when the computer was turned off..

so.. whats everyone's take on this?

did i fry the card?

Oh yea. I forgot that. Get the hx850w v2 from corsair. A fantastic power supply. Very quiet. Will do cf plus overclocking. wink.gif

Yea maybe it was a short circuit. Do you have a different power supply that will be enough just for boot? It maybe the psu but it looks more like the card.

hard to tell, its not a very well known brand, but being a 80+ bronze it shouldnt be horrible, good to find out the source of the noise and that it wasnt related. btw its called a pci express slot, not a crossfire slot wink.gif

here is the psu he has and some good pics to show the stickers and connectors on it, it saysit built for CF so i dont see why it wouldnt be able to run it, although i too recommend a good psu from corsair for a future crossfire, probably go for a silver rated psu

it also didnt seem like that much of a OC from the stock speeds, so maybe the guy that unlocked it might have over volted too far or something and it was just death waiting to happen

interesting so i it caused a short circuit because there wasn't enough power on the rails. .. what was your other suggestion.. about another psu?

Well if your gonna cf the. Go with the Corsair HX850 V2. Very stable, very quiet, very affordable.
