Do you ever have a problem with VRAM?

I play on a single monitor (1920x1080) and I only use a single client. I also tend to turn up the settings as high as they go for just about whatever game I play because it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside knowing I'm playing on max graphics.

Anyways, I have no problem with VRAM when I'm doing simple things like sitting in the captains quarters or idling outside a station or whatever. I looked at my VRAM usage during those things and it was anywhere between 600MB - 800MB of usage depending on activity of the station and such. I'm sure 4-4 Jita would easily hit the 1GB VRAM wall, but I haven't been there in quite awhile to check. So with 70% of my VRAM already being used in such subtle scenarios you must wonder how I feel when sh** actually hits the fan such as a 100 man fleet fight in null sec or a 60 man + incursion run in high sec. It will EASILY hit the 1GB VRAM wall and stutter and dip FPS like hell. My GTX 460's in SLI had no problem maintaining a good 45 - 60 FPS in even the most demanding of scenarios with this game.. but the problem is the constant stuttering in demanding scenarios(which I'm in probably 80% of the time I'm on EVE) due to hitting that VRAM wall.

So, with that being a problem I have already sold one of my GTX 460's and I am also selling my other one(It's here in the OCN classifieds if interested!) and I want to get a new GPU with more VRAM.

I prefer nVidia since the last time I had a AMD GPU I had terrible luck with driver support and it really frustrated me beyond hell.. but I may be convinced to try them again. I first was looking at the GTX 580's since they have had their prices drop recently but the 1.5GB VRAM really worries me.. I'm not sure that will be enough for what I do. If I am using 800MB of VRAM with like 10 people around me outside a station I'm sure I'll probably hit 1.5GB of VRAM in a 50 - 100 ship scenario pretty easily. I also was looking at the new 7850/7870's since they have 2GB of VRAM and are not super expensive and compare to a GTX 580 in some situations. I have probably about a $300 budget and I can buy used(probably would even prefer it so long as it came with a warranty).

So again..please don't say just to lower the graphics because I like looking at everything in high detail and really want to completely max the game without any issues despite how demanding the scenario is. Any thoughts on this? What GPU do you guys use? Ever have problems with VRAM? What kind of FPS do you get? What do you do while getting this FPS? Any stuttering or flickering with your AMD GPU?

Let the comments begin. rolleyes.gif
