[KG]Asus Sabertooth Z77 Motherboard Review (with OC GTX680) - Page 7

And yes previous generation Z68 boards all maxed out to 8 phase. The only boards that had 16 phase at that time was the x79 platform. In which most could hit 4.8-5.0Ghz stable on a hex core! That only makes me wonder what 16 phases will do for a quad core with a lower power requirement. If the heat issues were only a minor fix or bad rumor, and the Ivy chips meet expectations. I think 5.0Ghz will become the norm for this edging in generation. With the slight IPC improvement, Ivy will be more then enough to satisfy any load a home user can put on it.
... tho I could be wrong. lachen.gif

Yup certainly missed the memo on the sabertooth, although it still is a nice board none the less... but you can't say that for the Gene and the Extreme lol. For the X79 platform, yes i would gun for a higher phase and VRM count but for SB and IB they dont need to be that high. imo.
Small wonder.

No you are correct. If the processors are capable of holding at them clocks then it shouldn't be a problem. The only difference between the 8 phase and the 16 phase power design, is the 16 phase should be capable of holding higher clocks beyond that stable. You might get 5.0Ghz perfectly fine on Ivy, just we don't know until the processors are released and benched. Tho im certain you will need 16 phase if your even thinking about 5.5Ghz to 6.0Ghz on possibly liquid loops. Again this is just me giving Ivy more credit then it deserves at this point in time. All in all the Sabertooth should do what you want it too and make you happy (as someone once said on this forum lol).

Hearing that the Asrock Extreme 6 using inferior power phase control is saddening news frown.gif
I was quite sure I was going to pick one up at that price point until I heard this frown.gif

Well went a head and bought the deluxe. It'll be here tuesday, and I won't be able to use it until Ivy releases on the (28th?). I'd rather be safe and get "superior" overclocking performance for $30 more + a load of other features.
