Thanks "truckerguy" and "Volkovy87" for not telling me to "hit the bricks". I am at a complete loss, because all of the components used are either new, tested, or just pulled out of working computers.

A friend of mine suggested I use a hard-wired keyboard instead of a wireless - makes sense except I have never, ever failed to get into the BIOS with a cordless. Tried it - and, yep you guessed it, failed again.

Removed the heatsink/fan from the CPU, cranked 'er up and Nothing!. The suggestion that the backplate is grounding out the motherboard is a good one - obvious (excuse me) so I changed out backplates (all working and 1 brand new/special ordered for this "problem").

I don't like to fail. I don't accept failure. But I am failing - Big Time.

Just about to buy a gun and shoot the damned thing! But I have plowed so much money into it, I hate to. I call that the "Viet Nam Complex". smile.gif

You have used this board, gpu combo before, correct. How about some multimeter readings at the mobo24-pin connection (both power and ground) and at the cpu power plug.I can see why you can't do a safe mode test.Have you stated just what mobo it is?Perhaps a look over and some forum searchs will help.I will do the searches.Have you moved out of the case for your testing yet?Check for one-in-a-million stuff like pins being pushed back

EDIT: I am a mechanic and at times it happens, you just can not fix the thing. When this happens it is time for a second set of eyes to work on it.Just let the trusted second guy do his work as normal as possible (while you are out of the building).

Have you pulled the Mo-Bo battery out and left for 24 hours ? Has worked twice for me !
You need to nuke the RTC/BIOS, and I can't think of anything else except CPU vs BIOS version issues on the Mo-Bo ?
Have you tried booting with no memory, video, HDD ? The beep codes are my best friends...

Good Luck !

dunx

P.S. There is still a significant probability that you have received two dead motherboards....

sometimes it best to walk away from it for a time and then come at it with a fresh mind I had a Asus M2n 32 SLI board did the same thing to me I set it off to the side and 3 weeks later it booted right up into biso pertry as you please and is still going strong

When I was building my current system I could not get a post at all. I thought the sucker was dead dead. I had tried to do a CMOS clear with the jumper. After trying that it would not boot at all. After a bunch of troubleshooting and worrying myself sick and a nights sleep I consulted my manual and saw that somehow I had left the jumper in the wrong position. It was stuck on clear. I had gotten distracted or something while doing it and left it that way. Its a long shot, but check your CMOS jumper/ batteries.

I'm sure you thought of this, but it sounds like the components your using simply don't comply with each other (given that every other problem that could occur has been crossed off the list.) I know that was a long shot and highly unlikely seeing you used multiple components. I hope you can figure this out, Have you called your motherboard manufacturer? or maybe the GPU manufacturer (if applicable) They could have an idea on what your issue is, and hopefully if not they might be able to give you a new board.

First of all, Thanks guys for presenting suggestions as if I am not a total and complete idiot, which is the way I feel now quite honestly. I didn't come to OCN with this problem until I had done everything I myself knew to do - and did so in a "slave to logic" way.

1) xtreme-one
Quote:

Yes, sir, I did think of that and that is why I tried so many different combinations of components that have worked before. For what it's worth I have learned in life that everyone, no matter his "stature" in life, has something valuable to teach and can be one's teacher. While I did think of that, you did make me question the viability of these two "generic" graphics cards, so tomorrow I will pull out my "Monster Card" (runs 4 monitors - 2 28 inch and 2 22 inchers - and test the obvious. You may indeed be right and I may have missed the obvious. Btw, ever heard of "Occam's Razor". (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occam%27s_razor)

2) Jolly Roger

Actually I don't think it's so much of a "long shot" nor do I think that xtreme-one's suggestion is unworthy of exploration.

I shall try both tomorrow and will let you guys know the results. As much as this New OCN format drives me up the wall, I must say that I have never met a classier group of people than on OCN. Don't get me wrong here but I love all you guys and appreciate your help.

FYI and BTW, today I tried a wired keyboard (truly a long shot) instead of a wireless and that did not work. So I pulled the CMOS battery from the ASUS M4A79 Deluxe board and, hoping it has cleared the CMOS, will put it back in tomorrow. If I were a drinking man (gave it up cause it got a bit out of control redface.gif ), I'd throw back a couple of JD's and lament my misfortune. As it is I will get up tomorrow and test both suggestions.

Being riddled with OCD, I will also switch out the CMOS batteries. And yeh, I know I need a shrink ...

@incurable geek

Dude you seem like an awesome guy. Thanks for comin to us so we can try to help. I went through a similar experience about a week ago when I was doing a build for a family member. BSODS like crazy. I couldn't figure it out for the life of me. It was embarrassing. So after a new mother board and 17 hours of memtest86 that reported no errors. In the end it was bad RAM. mad.gif I wish your solution was as simple. Keep us updated man. And thumb.gif for fightin the power with controlling the alcohol thing. You're awesome.

For a couple of days, abandon the whole thing, dont even think about it.
Then start building from scratch, and there's quite a chance that it will work the first time you start it up..
These bastards have their own mind. Maybe use voodoo magic.

Can you tell us, what's the maximum amount of HW that works from that package?
I mean, is there a motherboard/cpu/ram/vga/psu combo, that posts? You tried a lot of combinations. Neither of those worked?
