I wonder how far you could overclock a E6700 on phase. Can you attach phase to the GPU as well?

About the X1900XTX comment I never even think of ATI because it hardly runs in linux.. Probably alot of other people never even consider ATI because of this.

4GHz easy with phase, though, he has no clue what phase is, so it probably isn't right for him.

I agree with not going to phase. It's nice, but requires experience and patience.

I'd say a good watercooling set would be nice.

Also, you picked DDR2 667, (PC2 5400) RAM. I would get at least get DDR2 80 (PC2 6400) RAM. I also disagree that the Dominater will 'dispose of' the DDR2 1066 G.Skills. The G.Skills have insane timings for that speed, and likely can handle quite a higher clock speed. And I am sure G.Skill will pull something out of their sleeve . Plus, even though I have Corsair myself now, I would pick G.Skill over Corsair now.

Why the fanboyisms against ATI? They have better products right now....

Thus,
Total: $4,810

Possible savings:
  • E6700 instead of Kentsfield: Saves $500
  • Good current motherboard, like the P5B Deluxe, instead of the newest high-end: Saves $100
  • RAM: Don't cut on the RAM. This is what you should get. No savings.
  • Video: Get a high end current card. ATI X1950XTX is the best right now. However, since your nVidia fanboy, the 7950GX2 is a good choice (just one...not two. Just one!!!). Saves $150
  • HDD: 2x Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS (Perpendicular Recording Technology) 320GB Saves $250
  • DVD: No savings
  • PSU: Don't settle for less. no savings
  • Case: Antec 900 Saves $110
  • OS: no savings
  • Monitor: a good 20" monitor, like the new Dell 20" that will come out Tuesday. Saves $450
  • Cooling: Go for good air instead of water. Saves $300
  • Mouse/Keyboard: get decent stuff, not high-end. Saves $75
  • Misc. No savings
This way, you could save $1,935, getting below the $3,000 mark (and buy a decent second rig with the left over money )

As far as I know, this is the only way to phase-cool your gpus (other than making one yourself).

Chozart you really did your math Thank you for taking the time.

I think a good setup without going crazy with money would be..

CPU - E6700
Mobo - Wait till the new ones launch
Ram - G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
Video: DX10 card $750
HDD: 2x Western Digital Raptor WD1500ADFD 150GB 10,000 RPM $450
PSU: PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 EPS12V EPS12V 750W $200 (mabey ill up it to 1000W?)
DVD: one burner and one reader $75
Monitor: UltraSharp 2407WFP Wide-Screen Black Flat Panel $700
Cooling - Well you guys say phase can really do its thing and I have freinds who can work with this stuff, so mabey I should still consider loaning it to my buddy to overclock to a descent speed and install the phase? Just an option.
Case - Either that U2FO or the other thermaltake mentioned.
Other - 100-200$ depends what seems nice
Sound card - Better to use mobo's or buy one? I dont know... so far all my mother boards layed out 6 channel quality sound.

Btw thanks guys ive got a pretty good picture of what i need and will buy now. Ill update you guys with pictures and final info when building lol. This will be fun. Again thanks a ton! this really helped me out.
