testing upside down Spitfire placement, for now Quadro goes to 65°C but because I used a SLim 800RPM fan, will try a 1500RPM.

These things landed here this morning...

Congratulations to the folks at Noctua: the NM-I3 universal Intel bracket is compatible with LGA1366 Xeon mount too, without drilling or modifying anything, and it has a way better retention force even for some massive heatsink like this NH-D14.

First placement with the UCCL12 fans, not sure if to recycle these or use the premium NF-P14-PWM (I bought two NH-D14 in SE2011 version just to get the P14-PWM fans

)

Someone will wonder if the first X16 slot will remain usable...

Of course it is

First temp tests will be with the P14 fans, they ain't bad as for noise, very regular "woosh" type, but I love those white UCCL12...

First I had ordered two Thermalright HR-02 Macho2, but they weren't available so I decided to get these, after accurate measurements to ensure they would fit on my mobo. The NH-C14 was a very good down-flow heatsink but wouldn't fit in either orientation, distance between sockets axis on the Tyan S7025 is 132 mm, so a heatsink if symmetrical must be max. 130 mm wide.

Shouldn't you point the heatsinks in a way that doesn't blow warm air into the second heatsink?

I could of course turn CPU1 heatsink towards the top, but that's not much better than this setup, in fact set that way, CPU1 would draw in warm air from the chipsets heatsinks. With the two NH-D14 heatsinks so close together they make almost a single air path, moved by the two fans. I'll post a Coretemp64 screenshot showing that idle temps are only 1°C apart one from the other.

Just found out that the Noctua NF-P14-PWM fans are really crappy, they make noise but no air, in comparison the NF-P12-PWM ones are way better

now I have two NF-P12-PWM on the CPU heatsinks, temp readings should get even better. As exhaust I tried a Thermalright TY-140-PWM that I had laying around, at max speed it is moderately quiet and good flow, never tried it on PWM, if it has a 900RPM minimum (max is 1300) then that's useless and I'll revert back to my Scythe S-FLEX 135

I am brainstorming about a possible HDD fan relocation: I have some 3.5" HDDs laying around

and I want to try using bottom 5.25" bays to place them in and use ports 13-16 of my card

For Christmas I plan on a RAM upgrade: 49152 MB

OK now I have a super silent system as for fans noise, of course the 12/16/20 HDD noise can't be killed

Thermalright TY-140 is excellent noise to airflow and pressure ratio, and as mentioned on specs it has a minimum RPM of 850-900, while the two Noctua NF-P12-PWM fans I placed on the D14 heatsinks have a min. speed of 350 RPM when set to 30% in BIOS. I'm tempted as to get three Thermalright TY-141 (can't find the TY-140 anymore

), hoping they're the same excellent quality as the 140 (according to TR site, specs are the same...

). I made a test placing the TY-140 in one heatsink and it was one of the best fans I have for that job...
