I don't know how it happened but my flash drive and my external hard drive can't be even open. I had this error shown up:

419

I believe it happened because I plugged in the flash drive and ext. hard drive to an infected computer. Can somebody help with this issue?

Virus scan?

And if you want to access the files... get a bootable linux distro disc (ubuntu, mint, etc.) and access the drive through that to save your files.

This is probably an infection though. Do a run with Malwarebytes and Spybot S&D as well as your current AV [ if you have one... else, MSE / Avast are great choices though I doubt they can clean this. I usually handle these types of things with bitdefender/kaspersky]

Can you access it in safemode?

How would a virus scan help? His system can't even access the data on the HDD. The file system is probably corrupted.

Is it the system or is it just explorer.exe that can't access it? That can change the came. Try to access it with command prompt and see. If that failes, Boot into linux and recover your files [if you can't access it in linux, then you might have to use recovery tools like TestDisk to save it, but that is a bit extreme so lets save that for later...].

Tell me if cmd/linux can access the files

Go to my computer. Right click the drive > properties > security tab

See if you can change ownership there or if some security settings are screwed up somehow. Might be easiest if you just give access to "everyone"

you would click Edit > Add > type "everyone" in the box > ok. Then try to give that group full control and see if you can access it.

I don't know but I tried plugging in to my other computers, they seem to work, but not this one. I don't know what's going wrong.
